Hyderabad is the next big city for AI Jobs

If Telangana’s mega plan for the decade comes to fruition, Hyderabad will be among the top 25 AI global innovation hubs. The state government as part of its AI road map has announced partnerships with Intel, Adobe, Tech Mahindra, Nvidia, Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) and IITs of Kharagpur and Hyderabad.

The move to focus on AI and data analytics is expected to boost jobs in Hyderabad, in particular jobs in artificial intelligence and data science.

According to news reports, the state government has set a target of attracting and enabling 200 Artificial Innovators and start-ups, leading to a valuation of $ 3-4 billion to build their base in Hyderabad.

This looks a great opportunity for newbies in AI and allied fields. This is also the best time for job seekers planning to switch careers in data science and artificial intelligence.

So, what’s the state of artificial intelligence in India?

Not very exciting but there is a great potential keeping in view the government of India’s focus and continued interest in artificial intelligence around the world. It’s being touted as the next big thing and the progress is hard to miss.

According to a report, “The number of AI professionals in the country has almost doubled from 40,000 in 2018 to 72,000 by end of 2019 and more than 3,000 companies claim to work on AI projects…”

No wonder, artificial intelligence is the 2^nd most emerging job in the LinkedIn’s emerging job report of 2020. The other IT jobs that will be in demand include blockchain developer, python developer, full stack engineer and robotics engineer among others.

The traditional IT hubs – Hyderabad and Bangalore lead the way when it comes to AI jobs followed by Pune, Mumbai and Delhi.   In fact, Bangalore is one of the popular cities for IT jobs in the country.

Skills required for AI Jobs
You are required to have a bachelor’s degree in computer science or engineering to get into data science but that’s not enough. Most companies prefer candidates to have some level of relevant experience. For instance, candidates are required to have key skills to handle AI responsibilities.

Projects or certifications – at times it’s asked what’s more beneficial to get a data science job? While basic qualification is required to be eligible for a data science job what will load the dice in your favour is your experience or the projects you would have undertaken. 

Candidates are required to have some understanding of mathematical concepts especially statistics that is an important area when it comes to machine learning, data science and artificial intelligence. 

Besides the mathematical concepts, one should also require to have knowledge of programming languages such as Python, C++ and Java. Python in particular is an important language for building AI applications. Another important language you should know for an artificial intelligence job is R programming language.
