Opportunity:
Accessibility Freelancer is responsible for driving forward access across the museum for internal and stakeholder engagement and relationship management in access and for providing technical specialist advisory service. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in working with the accessibly head to ensure our museum is accessible to all visitors, including People of Determination. This role is evaluating, planning and implementing accessibility initiatives to enhance the overall visitor experience. The freelance position is a full-time and dedicated role, with delegated authority to work in a technical advisory capacity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide Technical Guidance: Offer expertise in accessibility and inclusion to improve museum practices.
- Accessibility Policy Management: Oversee the museum's accessibility policy and ensure UAE and international standards are met.
- Monitor KPIs: Track and report on accessibility and inclusion KPIs, including evaluation and impact metrics.
- Committee Leadership: Lead the Museum Accessibility Committee, co-lead the People of Determination committee, and engage with user experience panels.
- Risk Oversight: Identify and escalate accessibility risks within the museum's risk framework.
- Accessibility Assessments: Support assessments for museum facilities, exhibitions, and programs to ensure accessibility.
- Collaborate on Programs: Work with curators and educators to create inclusive exhibitions and programs.
- Training and Education: Provide staff training on accessibility best practices as needed.
- Digital Accessibility: Assist in developing accessible digital content for the museum's website, app, and online exhibitions.
- Advocate and Remove Barriers: Champion the needs of People of Determination and work to remove access barriers in all aspects of the museum experience.
- Any other projects related to accessibility within the museum.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in related field (e.g., Museum Studies, Accessibility Studies, Special Education, Social Work).
- Proven experience in accessibility services, in a museum, cultural sites, historical sites, or related field.
- Strong understanding of accessibility standards and guidelines (e.g. UAE Universal Code, ADA, WCAG).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to small details.
- Fluency in Arabic and English
