The Airport Cargo Loader is responsible for loading and unloading cargo from aircraft, ensuring that all items are handled safely and efficiently. This role includes the physical movement of freight, adherence to safety protocols, and coordination with other airport personnel to maintain smooth operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Loading and Unloading:
- Load and unload cargo from aircraft, trucks, and other transportation vehicles.
- Ensure proper handling and placement of cargo to prevent damage.
- Utilize equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and conveyors.
- Cargo Handling:
- Sort and organize cargo based on destination and priority.
- Secure cargo using nets, straps, and other tie-downs to prevent shifting during transit.
- Verify and record cargo quantities and conditions upon arrival and departure.
- Safety Compliance:
- Adhere to all safety regulations and procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Conduct pre-operation checks on equipment to ensure safe functioning.
- Report any safety hazards or equipment malfunctions to the supervisor immediately.
- Documentation and Communication:
- Accurately complete cargo documentation, including loading manifests and inventory logs.
- Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other airport staff.
- Coordinate with ground crew and flight personnel to ensure timely loading and unloading.
- Operational Efficiency:
- Follow established procedures and schedules to meet flight deadlines.
- Assist in maintaining a clean and organized work area.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency.
- Customer Service:
- Provide courteous and professional service to airline staff, freight forwarders, and other stakeholders.
- Address and resolve any issues related to cargo handling promptly.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license.
- Experience in cargo handling, warehouse operations, or a similar physical labor role preferred.
- Ability to operate forklifts and other cargo handling equipment (certification may be required).
- Basic understanding of cargo documentation and procedures.
- Strong physical stamina and the ability to lift heavy objects (up to 70 lbs).
Working Conditions:
- Exposure to various weather conditions as the role involves working outdoors.
- Shift work, including early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays.
- High noise levels due to aircraft operations.
Preferred Qualifications:
