Job Description

Reports to: Director, External Funds Accounting

Purpose: The job holder will be responsible for managing the post award grant application process in financial functions, activities & tasks related to externally funded agreements, ensuring compliance with AUC policies and procedures as well as those of the funding sponsors. The Assistant manager is responsible for maintaining a portfolio of federally funded grants besides international and private organizations grants with complicated reporting requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform the year end closing reports, reconciles the reports with the AUC financial statements and discuss it with the auditors during their annual visit to AUC
  • Handle and respond to external auditors appointed by donors to conduct financial reviews on grants disbursements and reporting
  • Design and conduct training sessions for the Finance & Grant Managers in the schools and academic centers responsible for financial management of grants and participates in both the development and implementation of training and education programs that promotes a clearer understanding of the grant financial management process
  • Manage US Government and European Commissions grants with special complications and requirements
  • Check and verify the output of senior accountants at the grant's office, and mentors and trains the new hires and provides them with the needed guidance and directions to handle their portfolio of grants
  • Attend as the post award liaison between AUC, grants recipients, Principal Investigator/Departmental Administrator
  • Administer the establishment of new grants and contract awards and produces and reconciles project budget statements within SAP accounting system
  • Approve and verify postings of all relevant journal entries, transactions, and corrections in the project/financial module of the SAP accounting software
  • Responsible for reviewing project expenses and ensuring compliance with OMB circulars CFR 200 & 700 Uniform Guidance for federally funded grants or other sponsors rules and regulations for non-federal grants.
  • Produce and reconcile project budget statements within the university SAP accounting system and performing Rollover of grants budget
  • Ensure accurate and timely postings of costs and revenues associated with externally funded grants and integrity of data in AUC accounting system
  • Report status of grant projects to Director of External Funds Accounting
  • Review Federal Standard Reports and other financial reports to the granting agency
  • Manage grant closeout process including billing, collection, reporting and recording data into SAP and computes interests and overheads according to grants and contracts terms & conditions and posts relevant entries to SAP
  • Respond to department questions or requests for information, investigating problems and issues that arise with grant data
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by direct supervisor

Requirements:

Minimum Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, finance, or any related field

Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years of related experience.
  • Previous experience in grants financial management with externally funded projects

Skills:

  • Requires extensive knowledge of program administration guidelines of Federal and non-Federal sponsors supporting research and educational activities, preferably in a university environment and to interpret and stipulate policies and regulations.
  • Requires independent judgment and strong organization and communication skills and customer service focus
  • Ability to maintain detailed records and to handle a potentially stressful position and to manage high volume multiple complex projects in a deadline orientated environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills including SAP and financial reporting applications
  • Fluent in Arabic and English Languages
  • Special abilities required, such as analytical, computer, and others
