Job Description

Job Summary:

The Building Management System (BMS) Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of building automation systems. With a strong background in HVAC systems, the BMS Engineer ensures seamless integration of various building systems to enhance energy efficiency, comfort, and safety within commercial, industrial, or institutional facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and contractors to design and develop BMS solutions tailored to specific project requirements.
  • Configure and program BMS controllers, sensors, actuators, and other components for optimal performance and functionality.
  • Conduct thorough testing and commissioning of BMS systems to ensure compliance with design specifications and regulatory standards.
  • Perform regular inspections, diagnostics, and preventive maintenance tasks on BMS equipment to identify and address potential issues proactively.
  • Troubleshoot system malfunctions, analyze root causes, and implement corrective actions promptly to minimize downtime and disruptions.
  • Keep abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends to continuously improve BMS performance and reliability.
  • Monitor and analyze building energy consumption patterns using BMS data to identify opportunities for optimization and cost savings.
  • Develop strategies and implement adjustments to BMS settings, schedules, and controls to maximize energy efficiency while maintaining occupant comfort and safety.
  • Collaborate with facility managers to implement energy conservation measures and sustainable practices aligned with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of BMS configurations, programming logic, schematics, and operational procedures for reference and compliance purposes.
  • Generate periodic reports on BMS performance, energy usage, maintenance activities, and system improvements to stakeholders and management.
  • Provide training and technical support to facility staff, operators, and end-users on BMS operation, troubleshooting, and best practices.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and knowledge sharing within the organization to enhance BMS proficiency and efficiency.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • 6-8 years of hands-on experience in building automation systems, with a focus on HVAC systems.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as BACnet, Modbus, or LonWorks.
  • In-depth knowledge of HVAC equipment, controls, and protocols.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and project management abilities.
  • Certifications such as LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP) or Certified Energy Manager (CEM) are advantageous.
