Job Description

Job Summary: The Heavy Bus Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of heavy buses to ensure safe and efficient operation. This role involves diagnosing mechanical issues, performing preventive maintenance, and repairing various bus systems, including engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical systems.
  • Key Responsibilities:
Maintenance and Repair:
  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance on heavy buses, including oil changes, tire rotations, and brake inspections.
Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues.
  • Conduct thorough inspections of buses to identify and fix defects and potential problems.
Repair or replace defective parts, components, or systems, such as engines, transmissions, braking systems, and fuel systems.
  • Diagnostics:
Utilize diagnostic tools and equipment to identify vehicle issues.
  • Interpret diagnostic codes and troubleshoot malfunctions.
Ensure accurate and thorough documentation of diagnostic procedures and repairs.
  • Record Keeping:
Maintain detailed records of maintenance, repairs, parts used, and time spent on each task.
  • Ensure all maintenance logs are up-to-date and comply with safety and regulatory standards.
Safety Compliance:
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations while performing maintenance and repair tasks.
Conduct safety inspections and ensure all buses meet safety standards before returning to service.
  • Report any safety hazards or compliance issues to the supervisor promptly.
Collaboration:
  • Work closely with other mechanics, drivers, and maintenance staff to ensure efficient workflow and communication.
Assist in training and mentoring junior mechanics or apprentices.
  • Coordinate with the maintenance supervisor or manager to prioritize tasks and manage workload effectively.
  • Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent; vocational or technical training in automotive or diesel mechanics preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a mechanic, with specific experience in heavy bus or heavy-duty vehicle maintenance and repair.Certifications: ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification in Medium/Heavy Truck preferred; CDL (Commercial Driver's License) may be required.
