Consultant Neurology will diagnose and treat disorders that affect the brain, spinal cord, nerves, muscles, and related diseases of patients. Examine patient's mental and physical status, conduct medical tests and scans, and evaluate the results to properly diagnose and treat the patient.
Key Responsibilities
- Primarily is responsible for providing inpatient and outpatient neurological care by examining, diagnoses and treats disorders of the nervous system
- Performs neurological examinations of the nerves of the head & neck; muscle strength and movement; balance, ambulation, and reflexes; and sensation, memory, speech, language, and other cognitive abilities
- Competent to manage the core neurological diseases (the primary domain of neurologists) which include: Demyelinating diseases of the central nervous system, The epilepsies, Headache and migraine, Movement disorders, Polyneuropathies, Spinal cord disorders, Cognitive dysfunction, Genetic diseases with a primarily neurologic manifestation etc.
- Must be able to perform & read diagnostic tests such as: EEG (electroencephalography), EMG/NCV (electromyography/nerve conduction velocity), VEP (visual evoked potential), BAEP (brainstem auditory evoked potential)
- Identify presence of pathological blood conditions and prescribes and administers their relevant medications and drugs
- Counsel patients or others on the background of neurological disorders including risk factors, or genetic or environmental concerns
- Refer patients to other health care practitioners as necessary
- Advise other physicians on the treatment of neurological problems
- Prescribe or administer medications, such as anti-epileptic drugs, and monitor patients for behavioural and cognitive side effects
- Prepare, maintain, or review records that include patients histories, neurological examination findings, treatment plans, or outcomes
- Order supportive care services such as physical therapy, specialized nursing care, and social services
Education
A Medical degree and the successful completion of a residency and fellowship in Neurology from an accredited institute
Home country license and certification to practice Neurology
Active DOH license as Consultant Neurology or equivalent.
Experience
- At least 7 years of experience working in a clinical setting with a proven track record
- Demonstrate manual dexterity as necessary to complete procedures and patient examinations
- Concentrate for extended lengths of time
- Tolerate frequent interruptions and accommodate readily to changing work priorities.
- Readily and effectively communicate with others, both verbally and in writing.
- Good command in written and spoken English, Arabic fluency is an advantage.

- Required physical activities to include standing, walking, kneeling, lifting, stretching, stooping and repetitive movements.
