The WSP Middle East Environmental team is currently seeking to recruit an experienced terrestrial ecologist with background in EIA preparation to be based in WSP Middle East -UAE or KSA offices and provide expert ecological support and advice across a range of projects.

Your new role, what's involved

  • Providing technical advice, planning and undertaking ecology surveys. Carry out field surveys for biodiversity monitoring
  • Input into a range of ecological deliverables including Ecological Management Plans, Protected Species Reports, Ecological Impact Assessments (EIAs), biodiversity chapters of EIAs.
  • Client liaison and project management.
  • Project manage and author terrestrial ecology focussed large scale environmental projects including (EIA, SEA, CEMP, environmental emergency response strategies, pollution prevention frameworks) for major projects across the region with a particular focus on KSA projects.
  • An excellent understanding of the EIA processes environmental assessment methods and applicable planning legislation in the Middle East.
  • Good understanding and practical experience with international lender standards (particularly the Equator Principles and IFC Performance Standard 6).
  • Experience in undertaking studies such as Critical Habitat Assessment.
  • Experience in analysing and modelling ecological data.
  • Focus on management of terrestrial ecology focussed EIA, ESIA, SEAs and similar studies with day-to-day management and co-ordination across a range of project.
  • Managing the preparation of terrestrial ecology focussed EIA, ESIA, SEAs and similar studies, including the technical review of specialist chapters
  • Working collaboratively with design and planning teams to ensure environmental considerations.
  • A detailed understanding of relevant environmental consenting and licensing requirements.
  • Manage project financial performance and meeting profit targets.
  • Prepare and manage multi-disciplinary tenders and seek opportunities for new work.

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

  • Degree in Ecology, Zoology, Botany or related subject.
  • Very good knowledge of methods in biodiversity monitoring (sampling design, field surveys, analysis, species identification)
  • Experience in drafting Biodiversity Monitoring Reports with little or no supervision
  • Independently deliver terrestrial ecology surveys and reporting such as baseline survey findings report, EIA (and similar) reporting and Strategy planning.
  • Experience in designing and planning biodiversity surveys.
  • Strong report writing skills, attention to detail and ability to write concise reports in English.
  • Strong GIS skills.
  • Team player, with the ability to work comfortably within multi-cultural teams.
  • 6-10 years experience.
