Job Summary:
The Credit Controller is responsible for overseeing the company's credit control function, ensuring that all credit extended to customers is monitored and controlled in line with company policies. This role involves managing customer accounts, processing payments, reducing bad debts, and maintaining accurate financial records.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluating new credit requests and conducting client credit checks.
- Managing and collecting debts from company debtors.
- Setting up the terms of credit for new clients.
- Managing the collection of all payments and debts.
- Responding to client inquiries.
- Processing invoices.
- Preparing statements and reports for the company accountant.
- Managing Sales accounting and monthly reconciliation
- Liaising with customers and the sales team.
- Develop and monitor a credit control system in collaboration with sales and marketing, finance and executive team members
- Establish policies that follow customer service best practices while ensuring Clients submit payments on time
- Check consumer credit reports, approve or deny applications and communicate decisions to the appropriate personnel in a timely manner
- Maintain credit limits records, conduct regular analysis of the credit-control system and implement changes as needed
- Report any payment issues to management or the appropriate team
- Follow up on overdue invoices and payments and implement company collections procedures as necessary
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
- Proven experience as a Credit Controller or similar role in a retail environment.
- Strong understanding of credit control procedures and accounting principles.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel; experience with accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle) is a plus.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
