Job Summary
The Dental Assistant supports dental care delivery by preparing treatment rooms, patients, instruments, and materials. They perform a variety of patient care, office, and laboratory duties, assisting the dentist during procedures and ensuring that patients have a positive dental experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Patient Care
- Greet and prepare patients for treatment, ensuring comfort and addressing any concerns.
- Assist the dentist during various dental procedures, including exams, fillings, crowns, and extractions.
- Provide postoperative instructions prescribed by the dentist.
- Clinical Support
- Prepare treatment rooms by ensuring they are clean, disinfected, and stocked with the necessary instruments and materials.
- Sterilize dental instruments and equipment following protocols.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays).
- Manage dental charting and documentation of patient records.
- Handle dental materials such as cements, amalgam, and impression materials.
- Administrative Duties
- Schedule and confirm patient appointments.
- Maintain accurate patient records and enter data into dental software systems.
- Handle billing and payments, including insurance processing.
- Order and maintain dental supplies inventory.
- Laboratory Tasks
- Perform basic laboratory procedures, such as making temporary crowns, preparing casts of teeth, and creating impressions.
- Maintain and clean dental laboratory equipment.
Key Skills and Competencies
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in using dental instruments and equipment; familiarity with dental software and radiography.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to explain procedures and provide patient education.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong ability to work as part of a team; friendly and professional demeanor.
- Attention to Detail: High level of precision in performing clinical tasks and maintaining records.
