Context
The Design Engineer - Utilities will play a crucial role in the development and execution of the utilities design aspects for the BRT project. This position involves coordination with multidisciplinary teams to ensure effective planning, design, and integration of utilities in alignment with project specifications, local regulations, and sustainability goals. The successful candidate will possess a thorough understanding of utilities design, infrastructure, and engineering practices related to transportation projects, particularly in Bus Rapid Transit systems.
Missions/Main Duties
- Utilities Design and Planning:
- Develop detailed designs and layouts for utilities, including water, sewage, power, telecom, and gas systems as applicable to the BRT project.
- Ensure all designs are compliant with local standards, safety regulations, and project-specific guidelines.
- Conduct site assessments and reviews to validate the feasibility of proposed utility designs and identify any potential conflicts or challenges.
- Project Coordination and Collaboration:
- Collaborate with civil, structural, electrical, and other engineering teams to ensure integrated project design and alignment with BRT system requirements.
- Liaise with relevant authorities and third-party stakeholders to facilitate the approval process for utility designs and to address any issues or requirements.
- Participate in regular design and project meetings, providing input and updates on utilities design progress, challenges, and solutions.
- Technical Documentation and Compliance:
- Prepare technical drawings, specifications, calculations, and reports for utility systems, adhering to Systra and local standards.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of design changes, approvals, and project communications related to utilities.
- Support the preparation of bid documents, design packages, and other documentation required for project execution.
- Risk Management and Problem Solving:
- Identify and address potential design risks and conflicts in utilities, proposing proactive solutions and contingency plans.
- Conduct assessments to mitigate environmental and community impacts related to utilities work within the project scope.
- Sustainability and Innovation:
- Ensure utility designs incorporate sustainable practices and materials where feasible, supporting Systra Arabia's commitment to sustainable infrastructure.
- Explore innovative design solutions and technologies to enhance utility efficiency, durability, and integration with the BRT system.
Profile/Skills
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. A Master's degree or relevant certification in utilities or infrastructure engineering is a plus.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in utilities design for large infrastructure projects, ideally in transportation or urban transit systems.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficient in design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and other industry-standard utilities design tools.
- Familiarity with relevant engineering codes and standards, including local utility regulations and BRT project specifications.
- Strong knowledge of utilities planning and engineering practices related to water, sewage, electrical, telecom, and gas systems.
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a larger project team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience working on Bus Rapid Transit or similar urban transit infrastructure projects.
- Familiarity with environmental and sustainability standards in infrastructure design.
- Knowledge of project management principles and tools.
Working Conditions
- The role will primarily be based on-site in Saudi, with occasional travel to project offices or coordination meetings.
- Extended hours may be required to meet project deadlines or accommodate site inspections.
