Job Summary:The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and servicing of diesel-powered vehicles and equipment. The role includes diagnosing issues, performing preventive maintenance, and ensuring that all vehicles and machinery are in optimal working condition. The Diesel Mechanic must have a strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and other vehicle components.
Maintenance and Repair:- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in diesel engines and related components.
Perform routine maintenance, including oil changes, brake adjustments, and tire rotations on diesel-powered vehicles and equipment.- Ensure all repairs and maintenance are completed according to manufacturer specifications and safety standards.
Inspections and Diagnostics:- Conduct regular inspections of vehicles and equipment to identify potential problems and prevent breakdowns.
Utilize diagnostic tools and equipment to troubleshoot issues in diesel engines, transmissions, and other systems.- Prepare detailed inspection reports and communicate findings to the Maintenance Manager.
Record Keeping:- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities, including parts used, labor hours, and vehicle history.
Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures regarding documentation and reporting.Safety and Compliance:
Adhere to all safety protocols and ensure a clean and organized work environment.
- Comply with all relevant regulations, including those related to environmental protection and occupational health and safety.
Stay updated with industry standards and best practices.Inventory Management:
Monitor inventory levels of spare parts, tools, and supplies.
- Coordinate with the procurement team to order necessary parts and ensure timely availability for repairs.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with other mechanics, technicians, and supervisors to ensure efficient operation of the maintenance department.
Provide technical support and guidance to junior mechanics as needed.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in diesel mechanics preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience as a diesel mechanic, preferably in the construction or heavy equipment industry.
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical components.
Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and repair equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Certifications: Certification in diesel mechanics or relevant trade qualifications preferred.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy objects, work in confined spaces, and perform tasks that require manual dexterity.
This role involves working in both indoor and outdoor environments, with exposure to noise, dust, and hazardous materials.
- Overtime and weekend work may be required, depending on operational needs.
