About The role:
The Director - General Cargo Operation of Ports International Operating Company (PIOC) will provide leadership and strategic direction for All GC operation management with a focus on driving business growth, expanding the global footprint, profitability, performance, sustainability, automation, and innovation in line with PIOC Strategic Objectives. The Director GC Operation accountable to set and implement GC operation strategy and establish organization structure based on GC operational module, methodology and management systems and processes.
Core Responsibilities
- Develop general cargo operations strategy and organizational module targeting international market to achieve business targeted operation, productivity, cost structure and improve efficiency.
- Set goals and targets for general cargo operations, including throughput, productivity, and customer satisfaction.
- Manage budgets and resources to ensure effective use of assets and personnel.
- Negotiate and close customer agreements/retention.
- Oversee the daily operations of internal ports, including general cargo handling, storage, and transportation.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, safety standards, and company policies.
- Manage cross departmental activities, such as terminal operations, stevedoring, and logistics.
- Develop and implement general cargo management systems to track and manage GC inventory, movement, and utilization.
- Ensure efficient general cargo handling and movement, including receiving, storing, and dispatching general cargo.
- Coordinate with terminal operators, shipping lines, and customs brokers to facilitate general cargos storage & movement.
- Lead the provision of excellent customer services to international customers, including terminal operators, shipping lines, and logistics providers.
- Ensure prompt response to customer queries and concerns associated with the GC operations.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key customers to improve service quality and loyalty.
- Ensure compliance with safety and security regulations, including fire safety, emergency response planning, and security protocols.
- Lead and promote regular safety inspections and audits to identify areas for improvement within general cargo operation.
- Monitor the closeout of corrective actions to address the identified safety and security concerns or areas for improvement.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, including customs regulations, maritime laws, environmental regulations and operational legislations.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure operational efficiency, productivity, and customer satisfaction.
- Develop and submit reports to the CEO of PIOC and management on GC operations performance, including trends, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and cost reduction.
- Develop and implement initiatives to improve operational efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance customer satisfaction.
- Collaborate with other departments to leverage best practices and share knowledge.
- Perform other duties as required by management or as necessary to ensure the smooth operation of international GC operations.
People Management Responsibilities:
- Recruit operational and equipment maintenance team and procure service provider sub-contracts as appropriate, based on detailed development of JDs for key roles, service level agreements.
- Lead a team of GC operations, including supervisors, handlers, and administrative personnel and contracted stevedoring.
- Ensure the effectiveness of training programs to ensure staff are equipped to perform their duties effectively and efficiently.
- Conduct performance evaluations and coaching and feedback.
- Implement and manage appraisal/management processes.
- Establish disciplinary / performance management processes within Operations division.
Educational and Technical Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in general cargo operation, business administration, Ports/ Maritime Management or a related field.
- Minimum 12 years of experience in GC Operation.
- Demonstrated record of successfully overseeing international Experience and substantial operational and cultural change including business start-up.
- Strong leadership and decision-making abilities with a track record of successfully managing and developing high-performing teams in multicultural environments, fostering inclusivity, and leveraging diverse perspectives.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex international market data, cultural factors, and geopolitical trends, translating them into actionable insights and recommendations.
- In-depth knowledge of the international ports and logistics industry, global trade dynamics, market trends, cultural intelligence, and regulatory frameworks across various international markets.
