Director of Engineering (Rail infrastructure/Heavy Rail)
Must have Rail Infrastructure and Heavy rail experience.
Responsibilities
- Review of all schemes involving modification of existing assets, with a particular focus on changes to risk of failure.
- Responsible for the management and coordination of Engineering & Systems related packages, by Supervising and Monitoring the implementation and delivery of all various packages and ensuring integration, in accordance with approved plans and timeframes set out by the client.
- Provide all directions on Defining Civil works standards and technical assurance policies, ensure the development of an integrated design for the Civil/Structural and systems that would produce and fully functional network.
- Supervise the integration of the clients civil packages by managing the design interface, overseeing the engineering activities of each package and assimilating the outputs and providing effective guidance and support.
- Oversee the supervision, quality control, testing and commissioning of the project
- Manage the design, the oversight and the technical construction support in areas concerning railway civil disciplines associated with the design and construction of the railway network to ensure safety and risk measures are managed correctly.
- Min 8 years experience
- Director level, have experience managing people - not just engineers but managers to.
- Office location but travel to sites occasionally
- Making recommendations relating to modification schemes, which may include further study, acceptance, risk mitigating actions or rejection.
- Monitoring, in co-ordination with Asset Management, of asset condition, with a particular focus on risks of catastrophic failure, but also on opportunities to improve condition or performance as necessary.
- Maintaining broad, international, awareness of issues affecting railway assets, relating for example to climate change or to failure patterns affecting specific assets or asset types.
- Validation, in co-ordination with Asset Management, of asset condition reports provided by operating companies.
- Supporting, as necessary, formal safety review relating to changes to existing assets.
- Reviewing, and where appropriate challenging, renewal and overhaul programmes with a view to optimising cost, performance and failure risk.
- Intervening, where necessary, to stop or restrict the deployment of assets adjudged to pose unacceptable risk of catastrophic failure.
