Dry Bulk Vessel Operator, Shipping, Freight, Tonnage, Time Charter, IMOS, MENA. Location; UAE Dubai:
We are currently working with an established shipping company, based in Dubai, who are seeking a self-motivated dry bulk vessel operator to join their operations.
This role would be ideal for someone handling the commercial operations of a fleet of bulk carriers. The candidate would be responsible for developing and overlooking the day-to-day operations activities. The successful candidate will be required to manage the daily post fixture operations of the chartered/owned fleet, oversee stowage planning, monitor vessel, and port performance and handle all risk management activities in relation to operations liaising with the concerned teams. The candidate should be analytical, well-organized and excels in communication. He/she must be comfortable with paperwork and information systems and have excellent knowledge of shipping procedures.
Shipping Business:
The companies shipping business provides reliable and excellent operational standards for the carriage of cargo across the chain of all touchpoints, ensuring execution efficacy and control. The shipping team currently handles the volume for clients, supporting logistical services through managing freight for dry cargo. They monitor and manage vessels operations for allocated voyage or time chartered vessels.
Key Responsibilities
- To proactively manage the daily operational matters of the chartered/owned vessels and to continuously seek to improve the voyage result.
- Responsible for executing, monitoring, and reporting on all operational activity and ensures compliance, effectiveness and commercial objectives are met.
- Operational responsibility to plan, implement, execute, monitor and manage vessels operations for allocated voyage (VC) or time chartered (TC)vessels
- Calculating and planning entire voyage of fixed vessels, bunker arrangements, cargo calculations, relevant agency appointments, monitoring vessels consumption/speed
- Use IMOS for voyage management, updating vessels positions, cross checking actual PNL against estimate.
- Utilize IMOS for drawing up profit and loss reports, analyze same and discuss with chartering on ways to increase profits.
- Prepare invoices and secure punctual settlement of freight and T/C hire, in cooperation with the Accounting Department
- Accountable for ensuring that services are being delivered as per agreement and ensuring that SOPs and process documentation are up to date as per the company and the maritime standards for all processes.
- Ensure that the work is carried out in a professional manner and in compliance with applicable contracts and agreements
- Responsible for driving process excellence and make suggestions for innovation, savings, and improvements within the area of responsibility
- Drive continuous improvement of the process; Identify success factors, root causes of issues, improvement opportunities, and facilitate performance improvements.
- Actively monitor work progress such that risks, and problem areas are identified, reported, and addressed.
- Appointment of agents and providing voyage, load and discharge instructions to vessels and agents.
- Constant communication with Masters, owners, customers, brokers & agents.
- Accurate update of position book and voyage management software (IMOS)
- Calculating/estimating the results of operational challenges during the progress of voyages
- In coordination with the vessel&aposs management /owners and agents, to make out necessary load and stow plans in order to optimize the voyage result
- Initiating and executing bunker purchases
- Preparing invoices and securing punctual settlement of freight and T/C hire
- Preparing laytime calculations
- Handling operational claims (vessel or cargo) alongside relevant parties
- To ensure that voyages and port operations are run effectively,
- To create strategies to optimize the sailing condition of the vessels throughout the voyage.
- Cut down operating costs by evaluating port disbursement accounts, negotiating contracts for the shipowners with the charterers on laytime calculation, charter party, and fixture note.
Key Requirements
- The candidate should be analytical, sets ambitious goals, acts on his/her own initiative.
- The candidate must have experience within the shipping industry and preferably dry bulk with a minimum of 3-7+ years.
- Highly attentive to details and can thrive in a dynamic environment
- Able to build a strong, collaborative network and communicate effectively at all levels involving different cultures and geographical landscape.
- Ability to manage workload, prioritize tasks and deliver agreed results.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Has a clear understanding of the commercial implications of cargo and vessel/tonnage operations.
- Detailed and analytical with a mindset focused on safety, quality, and economical impact
- Must show consistency in being able to execute on plans, projects, and tactical initiatives
- Must demonstrate passion for continuous improvement
- Candidate must be tech savvy with a knowledge of various software
- Knowledge of vessel navigation, working conditions and seafaring terms.
- Understanding of the legal aspects of contracts and certificates
- International experience working and collaborating in a global working environment
- Strong experience in commercial maritime operations
- Understanding of Port Management
- Should have experience in handling operational claims (vessel or cargo) in conjunction with H&M underwriters, insurers, P&I clubs and other relevant parties.
- Currently based in or willing to relocate to Dubai, UAE.
