Job Description
The role of an Education Assistant (EA) is to support learning activities in the classroom: This includes
working under the guidance of teaching staff and within an agreed system of supervision, as well as the
implementation of agreed work programs with individuals/groups, in or out of the classroom. This could
include those requiring detailed and specialist knowledge in particular areas and will involve assisting the
teacher in the whole planning cycle and the management/ preparation of resources.

A. Organizational skills
Take direction and complete assigned tasks without difficulty
Take initiative, to identify what needs to be done, and act appropriately (within the
realm of their responsibility)
B. Instructional Support
Speak using appropriate voice level and developmentally appropriate language
Reinforce teaching strategies as provided by the teacher
Support students in all aspects of their daily program and demonstrates sensitivity to
individual student differences.
C. Observational Support
Observe and report on student s successes or difficulties accurately and consistently
Provide notes, checklists, and/or verbal reports on student s social interactions,
emotional well-being, and behavior as required by teachers.
D. Behaviour Management Support
Provide student(s) with appropriate encouragement and support
Apply good behavior management techniques as appropriate to individualized needs
Reinforce strong classroom management skills as provided by the teacher
E. Classroom support
Facilitate day to day tasks efficiently and competently
Provide effective classroom/ non-classroom supervision
F. Professional Behaviour
Be a cooperative member of the school team
Demonstrate professionalism and confidentiality at all times
Display a positive work ethic
Treat students, and all school personnel, with respect at all times.
Be punctual, reliable and trustworthy, and abide by the device-free policy
