Job Purpose
The ER Physician, specializing in trauma care, is responsible for providing rapid, life-saving medical interventions to patients with acute injuries and critical conditions. This role emphasizes the assessment, stabilization, and treatment of trauma cases, including those resulting from accidents, falls, and other critical incidents, ensuring that patients receive the highest standard of emergency care in compliance with UAE regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Rapid Trauma Assessment: Conduct immediate and comprehensive assessments of trauma patients, including focused trauma exams, to identify life-threatening injuries and prioritize interventions.
- Emergency Treatment and Stabilization: Provide life-saving interventions, such as advanced airway management, hemorrhage control, and stabilization of fractures, with a focus on trauma care protocols.
- Critical Procedures: Perform essential trauma procedures, including intubations, chest tube insertions, central line placements, and resuscitative thoracotomy, when necessary.
- Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with the trauma surgery team, orthopedic surgeons, neurosurgeons, and other specialists to ensure an integrated approach to trauma care.
- Diagnostic Testing and Interpretation: Order and interpret diagnostic imaging, blood tests, and other necessary investigations to make informed treatment decisions for trauma patients.
- Patient Management and Monitoring: Continually monitor trauma patients, adjusting care plans as needed to stabilize them before admission, transfer, or discharge.
- Family and Patient Communication: Provide timely updates to families regarding patient conditions and expected outcomes, with sensitivity in critical situations.
- Compliance with Trauma Protocols: Adhere to UAE and international trauma care standards, following best practices and protocols for managing traumatic injuries in the emergency setting.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate, thorough documentation of trauma cases, including injury assessments, procedures performed, and follow-up care recommendations.
Qualifications
- Education: Medical degree (MD or equivalent) from an accredited institution, with specialized training or experience in Emergency Medicine and Trauma Care.
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in emergency medicine, with a focus on trauma cases, in a high-acuity or trauma center setting.
- Certification: Board certification in Emergency Medicine is preferred. Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), Basic Life Support (BLS), and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications are required.
- Licensing: Valid medical license to practice in the UAE, or eligibility to obtain a license from the UAE Health Authority (DOH/MOH/DHA).
- Language: Proficiency in English; knowledge of Arabic is an advantage.

- Team Collaboration: Capacity to work effectively within a multidisciplinary trauma team to ensure comprehensive patient care.
Work Environment
- High-Acuity Trauma Setting: This role is based in a trauma-focused emergency room, handling a high volume of critical trauma cases.
- Shift Work: The position involves shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays, due to the 24/7 nature of trauma care.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks and respond swiftly to trauma emergencies.
