Job Purpose:
Responsible to plan, supervise, coordinate and participate in the overhaul, repair, fabrication and construction of light and heavy gasoline and diesel-powered automotive and specialized firefighting equipment and apparatus; ensures work quality and adherence to established policies and procedures; and performs related work as required.
Key Accountabilities:
- Design fire detection equipment, alarm systems, and fire extinguishing devices and systems. Inspect buildings or building designs to determine fire protection system requirements and potential problems in areas such as water supplies, exit locations, and construction materials.
- Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, review and participate in the work of staff responsible for the servicing, maintenance, overhaul, repair, assembling and construction of automotive and specialized firefighting equipment and apparatus, including fire pumps, pumping equipment, fire suppression/protection systems.
- Develop policies and procedures; monitors work activities to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures makes recommendations for changes and improvements to existing standards and procedures.
- Prepare purchase orders for equipment's, spare parts and services contracts. Hold responsibility for the disbursement of fire protective clothing, breathing apparatus, fire extinguishers and all other needed firefighting equipment.
- Conduct research on fire retardants and the fire safety of materials and devices.
- Perform more technical tasks of the work unit including more complex mechanical work on engines, chassis, bodies, ladders, tankers, pumps, gauges, high pressure tubing and valves and other components of automotive firefighting equipment and apparatus.
- Develop Fire Equipment and protection system specification and test/inspection methodology to meet HCIS or NFPA.
- Analyse Fire Equipment and protection system based on result of collected observations.
- Advice architects, builders, and other construction personnel on fire prevention equipment and techniques, and on fire code and standard interpretation and compliance.
- Oversee development of Engineering Staff within the Organization Supervisors and Relief Supervisors within Organization Technician resources with Organization.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the direct manager.
Qualification & Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Fire Protection Engineer.
- Minimum 6 years experience as Fire equipment officer.
Certification:
- Advance planning certificate.
- Meet qualifications for an NFPA1001 as professional firefighting.
- Meet the qualification of NFPA 25, 13 & 25.
- Fire investigation level 1.
- NFPA certified as Fire instructor 1&II.
- NFPA certified as Fire Officer 1.
- Fire risk assessment.
- Cost estimator or finance for non-finance.
