Overview
Environmental Specialists assists in developing/improving Environmental Programs. Will be assisting with the implementation of
hazardous material and hazardous waste programs in industrial areas, inspecting work areas for potential environmental hazards
or non-compliances and recommending abatement actions for identified environmental deficiencies, testing water and wastewater,
and partaking in the collection of recyclable commodities in support of a Qualified Recycling Program. Note, the Environmental
Specialist will be assigned to support one of the areas listed below.

Responsibilities

- Monitors use of Environmental Management practices in the workplace.
- Advises workforce on proper environmental compliance issues and prepares inspection reports;
- Observes environmental compliance during workplace visits.
- Updates relative data bases and reports.
- Test drinking water and wastewater for adherence to USG and Host Nation standards.
- Collects recyclable commodities in support of a Qualified Recycling Program (QRP).
- Assist with the Free-Issue of Hazardous Materials and Recyclable Commodities.
- Receives and stores hazardous waste in accordance with EPA and DOT regulations.
- Participates in all Quality and Safety related programs as directed.
- Develops environmental training lesson plans; presents environmental, safety and health training.
- Presents environmental portion of newcomer's orientation training.
- Participates in Environmental Working Groups.
- Sets a good example to the workforce by following all ESH regulations, policies, procedures and practices.
- Keeps work area and equipment clean and orderly.
- Other duties or assignments as required.
Qualifications
- Minimum Qualifications
- Education/Certifications: One-year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.
- High School + a minimum 6 years of environmental work experience OR an associate degree with 2-3 years of environmental work experience.
- Additionally, a military background and working knowledge of; US Army environmental regulations, safety and health regulations, and environmental guidance documents are beneficial.
- College level environmental related courses preferred.
- Certification: 40-hour or 24-hour HAZWOPER certification is desirable.
- MUST BE FULENT AND LITERATE IN ENGLISH at a level to the extent of reading and understanding written orders, training instructions and manuals, composing reports, conveying complete information and conversing with US Military (Army) and contracting personnel.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain local driver's license
- Preferred-Associates Degree in environmental, safety, health, or related discipline. Or, combination advanced education and four years experience.
- CFR 1926 OSHA 30-hour construction course required. NEBOSH Training/certification is a plus.
- Experience
- Minimum two (2) years experience as environmental, safety and health inspector or specialist in the construction industry, with firsthand knowledge of EM 385-1-1 and CFR 1926 OSHA Standards, safety compliance programs and hazardous material management, to include environmental compliance; knowledgeable in DOD, Army, EPA, and Federal regulations. Military background and training are beneficial.
- Skills
- Excellent English written and verbal communication skills, Competent in computer operations to include Microsoft Office; Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and Projects. Must have a strong ability to work independently.
- Able to follow written work instructions and interpret ISO 14001:2015 (Environmental Management Systems) protocols.
