Job Description: A Fire Fighting Engineer on a construction site is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining fire protection systems to ensure the safety of the building and its occupants. This role involves working closely with other engineering disciplines, contractors, and site teams to ensure that all fire safety regulations and standards are met throughout the construction process.
Design and Planning:- Develop fire protection system designs, including sprinkler systems, fire alarms, fire extinguishers, and emergency exit plans.
Prepare detailed fire safety plans and ensure they comply with local codes, standards, and regulations.- Coordinate with architects, MEP engineers, and other stakeholders to integrate fire protection systems into the overall building design.
System Installation Supervision:- Oversee the installation of fire protection systems, ensuring they are installed correctly and according to design specifications.
Inspect and test fire protection systems, including alarms, sprinklers, and suppression systems, to ensure proper operation.- Work with contractors and site teams to resolve any issues that arise during installation.
Regulatory Compliance:- Ensure that all fire protection systems meet local, national, and international fire safety codes and standards.
Conduct fire safety audits and inspections to identify and rectify any non-compliance issues.- Liaise with local fire departments and regulatory authorities to ensure all necessary approvals are obtained.
Project Management:- Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources related to fire protection systems.
Prepare and maintain accurate documentation, including design drawings, test reports, and compliance certificates.- Coordinate with other project teams to ensure that fire protection systems are integrated smoothly into the construction process.
Risk Assessment and Mitigation:- Conduct fire risk assessments to identify potential fire hazards and recommend solutions to mitigate these risks.
Develop and implement fire safety protocols and emergency response plans for the construction site.- Train site personnel on fire safety practices and the proper use of fire protection equipment.
Maintenance and Testing:- Ensure regular maintenance and testing of fire protection systems during the construction phase.
Address any issues identified during testing and ensure systems are fully operational before the building is occupied.- Prepare handover documentation and provide training to the facility management team on maintaining fire protection systems post-construction.
Safety and Quality Assurance:- Ensure the highest standards of safety and quality in all aspects of fire protection system design and installation.
Conduct quality checks and site inspections to verify that fire protection systems meet design specifications and quality standards.
- Skills and Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.- Strong knowledge of fire safety codes, standards (e.g., NFPA), and regulations.
Experience with fire protection system design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit).
- Excellent project management and communication skills.
* Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Certification in fire safety or fire protection engineering is a plus.
