A Glass Fitter is responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining glass in various structures and vehicles, ensuring precision, safety, and quality in all tasks performed. This role requires strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and knowledge of different types of glass and installation techniques.
Key Responsibilities:
- Installation and Repair:
- Measure, cut, fit, and install glass in windows, doors, skylights, storefronts, and display cases.
- Repair or replace broken, cracked, or defective glass panels.
- Preparation and Handling:
- Prepare and handle glass safely, minimizing breakage and waste.
- Use appropriate tools and techniques to cut, shape, and smooth glass edges.
- Apply protective coatings or films to glass surfaces as required.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Adhere to all safety guidelines and regulations, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ensure installations comply with building codes, standards, and specifications.
- Safely dispose of broken or waste glass.
- Customer Service:
- Communicate effectively with customers to understand their needs and provide recommendations.
- Ensure customer satisfaction by delivering high-quality workmanship and addressing any concerns promptly.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of materials used, work completed, and time spent on each job.
- Report any issues, damages, or discrepancies to the supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Vocational training in glass installation or a related field is a plus.
- Experience: Previous experience as a glass fitter or in a similar role preferred.
- Skills:
- Proficiency in using hand and power tools.
- Strong understanding of glass types, installation techniques, and safety practices.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Good physical stamina and the ability to lift heavy glass panels.
