Functional Description:
Head of IPTT will be responsible of supporting and empowering the Intellectual Property (IP) and Technology Transfer (TT) unit within the Department of Scientific Research & Graduate Studies (DSRGS).
Major duties include supporting the DSRGS in its efforts to boost innovation efforts by faculty and students through awareness and support in the development of patent applications and technology transfer, facilitating the identification, protection and commercialization of IP, conducting trainings, proposing initiatives for boosting innovation, and participating in research and development to support existing research centers and research groups. Finally, this role would also coordinate with the Research, Development and Innovation Unit (RDIU) within the university that was formed based on the RDIA request.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Promotes and supports innovative research by the university community.
- Engages in planning, monitoring and reporting of IP/TT developments.
- Ensures adherence to professional standards and ethics in prospective research and innovation.
- Liaises with the Entrepreneurship Unit and the Vice-Rectorate of Business Development within the University.
- Participates in DSRGS research & innovation projects conducted within its research centers and research groups.
- Holds training seminars and workshops on research innovation and patent registration and technology transfer processes.
- Facilitates, coordinates and liaises with patent offices and TT partners as well as university units involved in the process.
- Facilitates, coordinates and liaises with the Research, Development and Innovation Unit (RDIU) concerning the technology transfer process of project outcomes.
- Monitors the progress and outcome of all University patent applications and other innovations.
- Performs other duties as assigned by line manager.
Required Education, Skills and Experience:
- Ph.D. or Masters, ideally with significant patent submission and registration experience.
- Experience should include specialization in IP and TT management as well as some contractual and commercial background.
- Experience in communications, marketing and negotiation skills and industrial talent.
- Good record of innovative and high-quality published research.
- Minimum of three years of experience in a higher education institution or a research institute.
- Minimum of three years administrative experience in research project management.
- Experience in teamwork in research & innovation.
- Experience in supervising graduate students.
- Excellent command of both English and Arabic Language (spoken and written).
- Ability to foster a collaborative, customer-oriented working environment.
- Effective interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently, attend to multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines.
