The International University of Science & Technology in Kuwait (IUK) is a newly established private university in Kuwait, with a new Campus located in the heart of Kuwait near the Avenues Mall. Fully accredited by the Private Universities Council (PUC), the University offers a wide range of academic programs in Engineering, Business, and Arts and Social Sciences. In addition to the academic programs, the IUK has established the University Foundation Program (UFP) that offers English and Maths foundation programs. The IUK is looking for dynamic full-time instructors who are passionate about teaching, contributing to developing a vibrant and successful learning environment with students.
Position Summary:
The Head of Library at the International University of Knowledge (IUK) plays a pivotal role in managing and advancing the university's library services to meet the evolving needs of the institution and support the academic curriculum. This role encompasses a diverse range of responsibilities aimed at ensuring that the library remains a dynamic and integral part of the university's educational ecosystem.
Responsibilities:
- Strategic Planning
- Develop the University Library Strategic Plan in coordination with the Colleges, in order to Ensure that the Library responds to changes in academic programs, and is focused on securing the proper services to meet academic needs for information
- Strategic Resource Management:
- Oversee and manage the comprehensive library resources to align them effectively with the evolving needs of the university.
- Strategically plan the acquisition and maintenance of library materials to support academic programs and research endeavours.
- Curriculum Support:
- Collaborate with academic departments and faculty members to understand their resource requirements and tailor library services accordingly.
- Ensure that the library's collections are curated to complement and enrich the University's curriculum.
- Library Function Management:
- Collection Development:
- Develop and implement a systematic approach to building and curating the library's collection of books, journals, digital resources, and other materials.
- Acquisition of Library Material:
- Oversee the procurement and acquisition of library materials, including negotiating licenses for digital resources and managing vendor relationships.
- Automation of Services:
- Spearhead the adoption and utilization of library management systems and automation tools to streamline library operations.
- Reference and Information Services:
- Establish and maintain high-quality reference and information services, aiding students, faculty, and researchers in their academic pursuits.
- Circulation:
- Manage circulation services, including lending and returning library materials, ensuring a smooth and efficient process for borrowers.
- Develop and implement circulation policies and procedures that promote responsible library resource usage.
- Other Development initiatives
- To ensure that the library remains a dynamic and essential component of the institution's educational mission.
- Policies & Procedures
- Follow up and track the policies & procedures for the Library for review with VP Academic Affairs
- Build a Library collection reflective of the needs and interests of the University in the various fields of knowledge, as determined by the University Curriculum
- Serve as subject specialist and collection development librarian working closely with IUK
- Manage allocation and reallocation of resources and provide students and faculty with academic support related to library services & material in print form and electronic form
- Promote library services & promote resource sharing library services

- Participate in, Strategic Planning Committee as needed

- Promote a Learning and development culture within department

- Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in the field of Library and Information Science
- Maintain membership in professional organizations
Qualifications:
- Bachelor degree in Library science, or related, from an accredited University; Master's degree preferred.
- Professional Certificates are an asset.
Experience:
- 10 years of academic library work experience, with growing supervisory and managerial responsibilities
