About the Role

As the Head of Payroll you are expected to manage and oversee the process of employee payments within the University of Sharjah and ensure accurate and timely processing of employee salaries, benefits, and deductions. As well as ensuring compliance with relevant policies and regulations.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Ensure systems are set up and updated to reflect the University's current faculty/admin staff's data, including wages, allowances, and end-of-service entitlements.
  2. Ensures payroll deductions and other statutory deductions are completed accurately.
  3. Collaborate with the Telnet Acquisition and Employee Relations teams while processing the payroll to confirm approved joining dates, absenteeism, and other types of approved leave.
  4. Conduct regular payroll audits to ensure compliance with UOS policies.
  5. Ensure payroll transactions are properly classified and in compliance with general accounting principles and audit requirements. As well as interpret UOS policies affecting payroll procedures and recommend enhancements as required.
  6. Ensure compliance with all relevant policies and liaise with the Compliance and Internal Audit Office and external auditors to provide them with the information they might require.
  7. Assist the Director of the Human Resources Department in managing the budget and headcount.
  8. Participate in the hiring process for the section including identifying job requirements, sorting and reviewing candidate resumes, and contributing to the selection and interview process in order to ensure the best and most suitable candidates are selected for the available vacancies.
  9. Implement and ensure adherence to the HR quality assurance management process which entails that each team member is responsible for conducting a thorough review of other team members deliverables before submission to the concerned Head for review. Conduct an additional diligent review of the submitted deliverables before submission to the HR Director.

Job Requirements

Minimum of bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a relevant discipline.

A professional qualification as a chartered accountant or qualified member of a recognized professional accounting body (e.g. CFA, CA, CPA, etc.).

A relevant professional certification in payroll management, such as Certified Payroll Professional (CPP).

12-14 years of UAE experience in a similar role, preferably in higher education institutions.

Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to prepare professional documents, in both Arabic and English.

Excellent working knowledge of personal computer applications with an emphasis on MS Office applications such as Excel, Word, and Teams.

Excellent knowledge of ERP/HRIS Systems related to HR operations.

Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices related to payroll.

Strong knowledge and experience of the UAE labor law.

Ability to adapt to changing payroll regulations and implement necessary updates.

Excellent analytical and math skills.

Outstanding attention to detail.

Priority to UAE Nationals.
