Job Purpose
The role holder is responsible for operating various types and sizes of Cranes safely and efficiently in accordance with given instructions and safety requirements.
Key Accountabilities & Working Relationships
- Driving cranes to the worksite, setting up according to lifting plan / method statement, crane load charts, manufacturers operation manual.
- Inspecting the crane for visual defects daily before use and reporting any issues.
- Lift, lower, maneuver materials with precision and transport heavy equipment to worksites.
- Follow L&R signalmen, foremen and supervisor instructions by radio or hand signals in accordance with L&R operation and safety procedures.
- Operate the crane in line with designed SWL, according to existing weather condition, operation manual, load charts, and as per supervision supervisor instruction.
- Fills out the daily operations crane checklist before any operation.
- Take complete charge of all safety and quality pertaining to set up of the crane, rigging of the load, lifts, movements, dismantling of the crane and movement to new location.
- Oversees crane maintenance, load, and functional tests.
- Performs front end (operator driven) maintenance as required.
- Ensures proper licensing and inspections are kept current and coordinates the necessary maintenance and repairs of equipment with L&R supervisor, TS inspection division and Maintenance team.
- Stop unsafe activity and report any potential hazards to L&R foreman, supervisor, and safety team.
- Provides input for daily work sheets / crane time sheet for each project.
- Ensuring that all requirements / documents / permits are available before executing the operation.
- Must be able to work in a standard field environment (being aware of your surroundings and operations going on around you, Forklift / manlift size and required area for movement / operation).
- Helps to train local workforce as required and shares his knowledge with the team.
- Other duties as assigned by L&R Foreman, Supervisor, Superintendent, Manager & GM of Tech. Services.
Who we are looking for
- Technical diploma or equivalent.
- Collage will consider advantage.
- Certified crane operator (mobile cranes, tower cranes, crawler cranes, overhead etc.)
- Holding a valid KSA government driving license for public works vehicles cranes / Forklift or home country equivalent license is an advantage.
- Lifting certificates / rigging training would be preferred.
- Understand periodic and basic maintenance of cranes.
- Understands lifting and rigging methods, drawings, and plans.
- Can perform Task Risk Assessment (TRA) and Job Safety Analysis (JSA)
- Able to read and understand load charts and operator manuals.
- Knows his crane in detail (which he had operated in the past)
- Proper knowledge of rigging and slinging
- Understands principles of load testing, functional testing, and crane inspection
- Can perform and has done in the past operator driven (small) maintenance.
- Awareness of applicable norms and regulations to the extent required for performing of his duties and responsibilities.
- Leadership skills are a great advantage.
- Understand safety.
- Self-motivated, good initiative and job planning skills.
- Team player.
- At least 6-9 years of working experience as crane operator.
- Experience working with known crane brands (e.g. Liebeherr) is an advantage
- Able to understand simple and clear instructions in English verbally and review written, simple instructions. Capable of filling in reports and checklists in English language.
