Indirect Tax and Compliance Assistant Manager for one of our partners, a global leader in the chemical industry field.
Job Summary:
The Indirect Tax and Compliance Assistant Manager is a part of Finance Center of Excellence (CoE). The Specialist is responsible for ensuring the company's adherence to indirect tax regulations across all operational jurisdictions. This role is crucial in managing and mitigating indirect tax risks, ensuring accurate and timely filing of tax returns, and maintaining comprehensive tax compliance documentation. By leveraging expertise in VAT and other local tax requirements, the specialist will support the company's commitment to compliance, operational efficiency, and risk management.
Responsibilities:
- Tax Compliance Management:
- Oversee and ensure compliance with indirect tax regulations (VAT etc.) for HQ and OpCos (MENA and European region)
- Prepare, review, and submit accurate and timely indirect tax returns and related documentation for HQ and OpCos
- Monitor and stay updated on changes in tax legislation and assess their impact on the company
- Tax Reporting and Documentation:
- Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation for all indirect tax processes and transactions
- Develop and review tax reporting schedules, ensuring accuracy and compliance with legal requirements
- Review tax impact on high-risk transactions
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders (Shared Services Center, OpCO Finance) to gather necessary information for tax reporting and compliance
- Audit and Risk Management:
- Assist in preparing for and managing indirect tax audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations
- Reconcile General Ledger balance with Tax Payable / Receivable positions as per return.
- Identify and mitigate indirect tax risks and issues, implementing corrective measures as needed
- Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Work closely with the Tax HQ, finance, legal, and operations teams to address indirect tax issues and provide guidance on tax implications for business transactions
- Be the first point of contact for tax in SSC and ensure monitoring and correct posting of tax related entries
- Liaise with external tax advisors and consultants as required
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in taxation, Chartered Accountant, Business, or a related field
- Master's degree in Taxation, Accounting, Business, or a related field is a plus
- Proven experience of at least 5+ years in tax administration in a CoE or Specialist role managing indirect tax compliance for MENA region
- In depth knowledge in indirect tax processes
- Understanding of applicable indirect tax regulations (UAE, Egypt and Europe)
- Proficiency and working knowledge in financial systems and applications, particularly those related to tax management, including Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems (Experience in SAP/S4 is mandatory).
- Experience with adopting E-invoicing system
- Excellent written and verbal Arabic and English language proficiency
Skills:
- Financial & Accounting Acumen: Understanding of basic principles of finance, accounting, and book-keeping
- Understanding of Laws and Regulations: Strong understanding of applicable indirect tax laws (UAE, Egypt and Europe), ability to interpret and apply the same in accurate manner to ensure compliance
- Tax Accounting: Strong understanding, experience and working knowledge in indirect tax accounting and compliance
- Process Expertise: Deep understanding of indirect tax accounting processes, ability to develop and implement processes, programs, and services based on industry leading and business needs
