The Instructional Designer role can help the university transform lives and reach our 1 million students goal by providing them with quality online courses.
GENERAL PURPOSE:
The Instructional Designer (ID) collaborates with Subject Matter Experts to develop quality online courses for UoPeople. The Instructional Designer will utilize proven andragogical methods and current tools to create interactive and engaging content for students. Courses are developed with full accessibility and by the university standards. Instructional Designers act as the liaison between Department Chairs, Faculty, and Subject Matter Experts and the internal teams involved in the design and development of engaging courses.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works with Subject Matter Experts on the design and development of the UoPeople online courses.
- Provides expertise in instructional planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of online learning courses.
- Reviews online course materials for copyright and ADA and Section 508 compliance.
- Collaborates with the Course Developer team to develop accessible, engaging, and interactive content elements.
- Ensures the application and integration of appropriate teaching and learning theory and distance learning principles into a fully online course development process.
- Assists with the selection of instructional materials and the design and use of learning tools and activities for an interactive online environment.
- Provides guidance and assistance for the creation of effective and meaningful assessments of student learning.
- Contributes to the identification of high-quality open education resources (OER).
- Provides direction on the design and development of all course elements, including syllabi, course learning outcomes, and curricular mapping.
- Tracks progress and ensures timely completion of the overall project deliverables.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree in instructional design or related field preferred, but not required.
- Bachelor's degree required in instructional design or related field.
- Relevant certifications in education and/or educational technology are acceptable.
- 1-3 years experience required.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
- Fluency in languages is a plus, specifically Arabic and Spanish.
- Ability to manage time, projects, and resources to achieve goals.
- Working knowledge of basic instructional design principles.
- Some technical skills, including a basic knowledge of HTML, Internet research, Open Educational Resources (OERs), and educational web tools.
- Proven abilities in curriculum development and instructional design.
- Interest in the implementation of innovative, creative course delivery methods.
- Familiarity with the OSCQR rubric preferred, but not required.
