Job Description

Job Title: Laboratory Director

Direct Reporting: Business Development & Medical Laboratory Director

Department: Laboratory

Location: Core Laboratory

Role Description: The Lab Director at FutureLab Medical Laboratories is a senior registrar clinical pathologist responsible for overseeing all aspects of the laboratory's operations, ensuring high standards of quality and efficiency. This role involves managing staff, maintaining compliance with regulatory standards, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of laboratory processes, and the ability to effectively manage both administrative and technical functions within the lab.

Key Responsibilities & Activities:

1. Leadership and Management:

  • Oversee daily laboratory operations and ensure smooth functioning.
  • Manage and mentor laboratory staff, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to improve operational efficiency and quality.

2. Quality Control and Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Oversee quality control programs and ensure accurate and reliable test results.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections to maintain high standards of laboratory practices.

3. Financial Management:

  • Develop and manage the laboratory's budget, ensuring cost-effective operations.
  • Monitor financial performance and implement strategies to improve profitability.
  • Oversee procurement of laboratory supplies and equipment.

4. Technical Oversight:

  • Ensure the proper maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment.
  • Stay updated with advancements in laboratory technology and implement new techniques as appropriate.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to laboratory staff.

5. Strategic Planning and Development:

  • Develop and implement strategic plans to achieve laboratory goals and objectives.
  • Identify opportunities for growth and expansion of laboratory services.
  • Collaborate with other departments to support overall organizational goals.

6. Customer Service:

  • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction by delivering quality laboratory services.
  • Address and resolve any customer complaints or issues promptly.
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.

Job Specification / Competencies:

Qualifications:

  • Education:
  • Master's in Clinical Pathology. Senior Registrar classification is mandatory.
  • MD in Hematology, Microbiology, Parasitology, or Chemical Biology.
  • Hematologists are preferred.
  • Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a laboratory setting, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • 5 years of Egyptian or any other Arabian Fellowship is preferential.
  • Tenure as University Staff is preferential.

Certifications:

  • Dataflow Certificate.
  • Prometric Exam.
  • Certification from a recognized professional body (e.g., ASCP, AAB, CAP, CABAHI) is preferred.
  • Master's in Clinical Pathology is mandatory.
  • Doctor of Medicine in Microbiology, Parasitology, Chemical Biology. Hematology is preferred.
  • Continuous education and professional development in laboratory management and technology.

Knowledge:

  • Comprehensive understanding of laboratory operations and management.
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards and compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of quality control principles and laboratory safety practices.

Skills:

  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in using laboratory information systems and management software.

  • High level of integrity and ethical standards.
