Lead, Geoscience & Reservoir Solutions

Primary purpose of job

Lead the team and oversee IT solutions and services related to the Geoscience & Reservoir domains and upstream data management in close relationship with the Subsurface Development and Exploration entities. Deliver multiple high value IT projects and cutting-edge technologies in the subsurface domain, enabling business to address challenges and unlock potentials.

Experience & Skills

Minimum 10 years of progressive and directly related experience including minimum 5 years of supervisory management responsibilities.

Lead and monitor high value IT projects in the upstream sector, focusing on the Geoscience and Reservoir domains in addition to subsurface data management, in alignment with QatarEnergy and ICT strategy to deliver state-of-the-art technology that fulfils business need within the project baseline while contributing to business change management.

Prepare and assess business cases to authorize projects and ensure appropriate return on investment to QatarEnergy. Analysis business needs, identify and assess the available solutions and potentials in the market, and provide recommendations as appropriate. Proficient in researching and studying software trends, tools, methodologies, and standards.

Manage the Geoscience & Reservoir Solutions team, ensure high systems performance via proper monitoring and analyses, and ensure smooth operations and support services.

Ensure proper monitoring and analyses of the solutions performance, and liaison with ICT sections and vendors for system performance tuning.

Develop and manage capacity planning for long-term demands and short-term requirements including infrastructure resources (such as HPC, data storage, VDI, etc.) and application licensing as per the business need.

Manage resources and budget allocations while ensuring proper optimization.

Oversee purchase requisitions and manage contracts and agreements of the solutions while ensuring that contractual commitments to vendors are met.

Propose, assess, and lead initiatives related to digitalization, data analytics, ML and AI that add value to the business. Engage in and support strategic initiatives and Cloud as appropriate.

Keep abreast of current technology trends, software providers, OSDU, through research and on-going interaction with local, regional, and international software providers and other Energy Companies, ensuring that the application software remain current and in line with international trends.

Familiar with international Oil and Gas and ICT industry standards, architecture, integration, methods and solutions.

Education

Bachelor's or master's degree in Geoscience/Computer Science/information Technology/Petroleum or equivalent.

Minimum 10 years of progressive and directly related experience including minimum 5 years of supervisory management responsibilities.
