Job Summary
The Lead Engineer - Water Treatment leads the design activities of water and wastewater treatment projects of medium to high complexity. The job holder ensures a functional, effective, and aesthetic design for Water and Wastewater Treatment projects, which accommodates the requirements of the client, local authorities, international standards and codes of practice, and the requirements of other disciplines.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare design calculation sheets for wastewater treatment plants, and water treatment, and prepare Reverse Osmosis (RO) projections for desalination plants
- Prepare General Site Layouts for treatment plants, Process Flow Diagrams (PFD), Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams P&IDs, and hydraulic profiles
- Prepare Specifications and BOQs for water treatment works and equipment
- Prepare feasibility studies and design reports.
- Refine selected design options into schematic and draft final designs, including all required drawings and reports
- Coordinate with other design specializations (e.g. Architecture, Structural, Mechanical, Transportation) to coordinate design requirements across disciplines for design projects across all design stages (conceptual, schematic, detailed), as needed
- Review prepared design deliverables with senior project teams and implement design revisions based on reviews and checking reports, as needed
- Closely work with stakeholders for design value engineering for projects, as needed
- Closely work with Project Managers for the review and validation of design deliverables with clients and authorities, capturing feedback and obtaining approvals, as needed
- Closely work with the Quantity Surveying Department for the development of tender documents, including specifications, and Bills of Quantities, as needed
- Closely work with project teams for reviewing design deliverables of design projects, including conducting detailed reviews and checks and the issuance of checking reports, as needed
- Provide support to Project Managers in developing periodic progress reports, as needed
- Assist Project Managers with implementing quality control policies and procedures on design deliverables and conduct peer reviews on team members deliverables
- Support during the supervision stage, as needed, including responding to RFIs and solving design conflicts, in coordination with local design support teams
Qualifications, Experience and Skills Required to Execute this Role
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
- A Master's Degree is an advantage
- Over 5 years of professional experience in the wastewater and water treatment design industry
- In-depth knowledge of wastewater and water treatment plants design
- Proficient in Reverse Osmosis (RO) projection software, wastewater treatment modeling such as Biowin or equivalent
- Exposure to global best practices and trends in the water treatment design field
- Good communication and presentation skills
- Good interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in spoken and written English and Arabic
