Job Purpose
To lead the provision of research, learning and teaching, and knowledge transfer, to the benefit of students, the School, the University and the wider community.
Main responsibilities
Learning and teaching
- Lead the development and review of curricula and programmes through liaison with colleagues in Dubai and London
- Ensure that the curriculum is at the forefront of knowledge and reflects the latest research insights and materials
- Lead the development of innovative approaches to learning and teaching
- Coach and develop others in teaching methods and practice
- Deliver high quality teaching to students at undergraduate and postgraduate level
- Lead initiatives to enhance student experience and outcomes
- Provide academic advice and counselling
- Supervise dissertations at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
- Liaise closely with teaching, technical and administrative staff as appropriate to ensure a quality teaching and learning environment.
Research and knowledge transfer
- Promote the development of the Campus's research capacity and culture
- Shape and lead major research projects and/or collaborations
- Maintain a personal research profile, including outputs, of high international standing
- Demonstrate commitment to making an impact on society, based on research and knowledge transfer
- Attract and supervise Masters students
Academic Leadership and Management
- Lead learning and teaching activities in a particular area as agreed, e.g. programme leadership
- Contribute to cross-Campus activities, such as student recruitment, induction, assessment, national and international partnerships etc
- Represent colleagues and students on Campus committees, as required
- Develop, manage and provide feedback to staff
- Manage other allocated resources efficiently
- Coach and mentor colleagues
- Undertake other activities, as required
RequirementsEssential Requirements
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Appropriate academic qualifications at the postgraduate level (normally a doctorate or equivalent) in Operations Management, Operations Research, Logistics Management, or Supply Chain Management.
- Strong understanding of operations management principles, including process improvement, production planning, quality management, and project management.
- Core knowledge of supply chain management concepts, including logistics, inventory management, and its application in a global context.
- Strong understanding of procurement processes, supplier relationship management, contract negotiation, and strategic sourcing.
- Familiarity with ERP systems and software used in operations and supply chain management.
- Awareness of current trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in operations and supply chain management.
- Proficiency in developing mathematical/statistical models to solve real-world problems in operations, logistics, and supply chain management.
- Excellent analytical skills to solve complex problems in operations and supply chain management using optimization, simulation, and analytics
- Evidence of competence in the fields mentioned above and a track record of research outputs, normally of high international standing, commensurate with the stage of career.
- Track record of innovation in teaching and learning, reflected in the design, delivery, and promotion of good professional practice.
- Ability to engage and motivate students and staff to perform at their best.
- Proven record of success in undertaking, supervising, and managing research activity, including Master's supervision.
Desirable Requirements
Knowledge, Skills And Experience
- Previous experience working in operations, logistics, supply chain, or a related field.
- Experience applying analytical techniques to real-world business problems.
- Proficiency in using and/or teaching ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and understanding their role in integrating various business processes.
- Familiarity with specialized software for logistics and supply chain management, or business intelligence tools for operations management.
- Track record of attracting sustained research and knowledge transfer funding.
- Proven record of success in undertaking, supervising, and managing research activity, with experience in doctoral student supervision.
- Evidence of ability to attract research and knowledge transfer funding.
- Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education or an equivalent teaching qualification.
