Responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing a comprehensive risk management program for University of Prince Mugrin. This role involves identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks across various departments and functions within the university to ensure the safety of students, staff, and assets, as well as to safeguard the university's reputation and financial well-being.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Risk Identification and Assessment:
- Conduct regular risk assessments across all university departments and functions to identify potential risks and vulnerabilities.
- Collaborate with department heads and stakeholders to gather information on operational processes and potential risk factors.
- Analyze data and trends to anticipate emerging risks and proactively address them.
Risk Mitigation and Control:
- Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies and control measures to minimize the impact of identified risks.
- Provide guidance and support to departments in implementing risk control measures and best practices.
- Monitor the effectiveness of risk controls and adjust strategies as needed.
Policy Development and Compliance:
- Develop and maintain risk management policies, procedures, and guidelines in alignment with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
- Ensure that all university activities and operations comply with relevant laws, regulations, and internal policies related to risk management.
- Provide training and education to staff and faculty on risk management principles and practices.
Incident Response and Crisis Management:
- Establish protocols and procedures for responding to incidents and crises, including emergencies, natural disasters, and other unforeseen events.
- Coordinate with relevant stakeholders to effectively manage and mitigate the impact of incidents on university operations and stakeholders.
- Conduct post-incident reviews to identify lessons learned and opportunities for improvement.
Insurance Management:
- Manage the university's insurance programs, including property, liability, and other coverage types.
- Review insurance policies to ensure adequate coverage and minimize gaps in protection.
Risk Communication and Reporting:
- Communicate risk management objectives, strategies, and updates to university leadership, department heads, and other stakeholders.
- Prepare regular reports on risk exposures, mitigation efforts, and risk management performance for senior management and the Board of Trustees.
- Serve as a liaison with external auditors, regulators, and other stakeholders on risk management matters.
Required Education, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in risk management, business administration, finance, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
- Professional certification in risk management (e.g., CRM, ARM, or equivalent) is highly desirable.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in risk management, preferably in a higher education or large institutional setting.
- Strong understanding of risk management principles, methodologies, and best practices.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex situations and develop effective solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels, both orally and in writing.
- Proven leadership and project management skills, with the ability to drive initiatives to completion in a collaborative environment.
- Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards related to risk management and insurance.
