Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Overview:
We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team, supporting our real estate development projects. The role involves designing and overseeing the mechanical systems of residential, commercial, and mixed-use properties, ensuring that HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and other mechanical systems are designed for efficiency, safety, and functionality. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on diverse construction projects, collaborating with architects, structural engineers, and construction teams to ensure seamless project execution.
Key Responsibilities:
- Mechanical System Design:
- Design and model mechanical systems for residential and commercial buildings, including HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning), plumbing, fire protection, elevators, and building automation systems. Create detailed design drawings, specifications, and schedules for mechanical systems using 2D and 3D CAD software.
- Building Systems Integration:
- Collaborate with architects, structural engineers, and electrical engineers to ensure mechanical systems are integrated smoothly into building designs. Optimize mechanical systems to maximize energy efficiency, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness while meeting local building codes and regulations.
- Code Compliance and Standards:
- Ensure mechanical systems comply with local, state, and federal codes and standards, including environmental regulations, energy efficiency guidelines, and safety codes (e.g., ASHRAE, NFPA, LEED). Prepare documentation for regulatory approvals and conduct reviews for code compliance.
- HVAC and Plumbing Design:
- Design heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems for buildings, ensuring optimal indoor climate control. Design plumbing systems, including water supply, drainage, and waste disposal systems, ensuring both functionality and sustainability.
- Energy Efficiency and Sustainability:
- Implement energy-efficient designs and renewable energy solutions where applicable. Advise on sustainable building practices and design systems that contribute to green building certifications such as LEED, BREEAM, or similar.
- Site Inspections and Field Support:
- Conduct on-site inspections during the construction phase to verify that mechanical systems are installed correctly and according to design specifications. Troubleshoot and resolve any issues that arise during the construction and commissioning stages.
- Cost Estimation and Budgeting:
- Assist in estimating the costs for mechanical system installations, materials, and equipment. Help monitor project budgets, ensuring designs are cost-effective and adhere to financial constraints.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with project managers, contractors, and construction teams to ensure mechanical systems are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required specifications. Provide technical support and guidance throughout the construction process.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed documentation of all designs, revisions, and approvals. Prepare reports for clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities as required. Ensure proper tracking of project milestones and completion stages.
