About Role: Repair & restore all Woodwind, Brass & stringed instruments. As an instrument repair technician, your primary responsibilities include the restoration of older instruments and the repair of instruments for customers. Your duties involve answering client questions, assessing the damage, ordering parts, and completing repairs. You work with specialized tools and hardware and often spend time working on a projects. You must meet the necessary qualifications and obtain the proper skills before working on a new category of instruments, such as string, brass, woodwind, or electric instruments. You must educate customers on proper maintenance and care of equipment. Identify and diagnose problems with the instruments, and be able to communicate effectively with customers and colleagues. A repair tech is a problem-solver, mechanic, acoustician, plumber, musician, bodyworker, innovator, painter, jeweler, tool and die maker, electroplater, counselor, buffer, chemist, designer, carpenter, and machine tool operator all in one.
Modify and repairing Woodwind, Brass & stringed instruments, including shaping, carving, and assembling various components such as the body, neck, and bridge.
- Selecting and treating wood for optimal sound quality. Refurbishing vintage and antique instruments.
Discussing design and aesthetic preferences with clients.- Maintaining a clean and organized workshop with proper tools and equipment for the job
Inspect instruments for any necessary repairs or modifications
- Choose the appropriate materials for specific instruments
Shape and carve the wooden parts. Apply varnish, lacquer, and other finishes- Fit all instruments and mechanical parts. Set up and adjust the instruments
Modify and repair all instruments. Install soundboard, bridge, and other components
- Manage the workshop end to end including the repair, inventory, orders, listing purchase requirements
Certified Technician with minimum 5 years of experience with proven track record in the similar role
- Experience in woodworking and craftsmanship.
Knowledge of physics and acoustics as it pertains to musical instruments.- Familiarity with various types of Woodwind, Brass & stringed instruments and their properties.
Ability to work with precision and attention to detail.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination & Good communication skills
Strong ability to interact with clients, customers in both B2B & B2C side of business
- Expertise in woodworking and carving with hand and power tools.
Proficiency in playing and tuning stringed instruments.- Creativity and ability to work with clients to create unique designs.
Excellent time management skills to ensure projects are completed in a timely manner.
- Strong communication skills to effectively discuss projects with clients.
Perform necessary modifications and adjustments- Test and evaluate instruments to ensure best sound quality
