Job Description

A Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Inspector is responsible for evaluating the properties of materials, components, or systems without causing damage. Their primary role is to ensure that products, structures, and systems meet safety and quality standards by using various NDT techniques to detect flaws, defects, or inconsistencies.

Responsibilities:

Inspection and Testing:
Perform non-destructive tests on materials, components, and systems using methods such as ultrasonic testing (UT), radiographic testing (RT), magnetic particle testing (MPT), dye penetrant testing (DPT), eddy current testing (ECT), and visual inspection (VT).
Interpret and evaluate test results according to applicable codes, standards, and specifications.
Select appropriate NDT methods based on the type of material, component, or structure being tested and the type of defects being sought.
Documentation and Reporting:
Prepare and maintain detailed records of test results, including inspection reports, data sheets, and test certificates.
Document any detected defects, anomalies, or deviations from standards.
Compile and present findings to engineers, supervisors, or clients, ensuring that all documentation meets industry and regulatory standards.
Compliance and Standards:
Ensure all testing is conducted in compliance with relevant codes, standards, and regulations, such as ASME, ASTM, API, or other industry-specific standards.
Stay updated on changes to NDT techniques, standards, and best practices.
Equipment Maintenance and Calibration:
Ensure that all NDT equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and in good working condition.
Perform routine checks and calibrations of testing instruments to ensure accuracy and reliability.
Troubleshoot and resolve any issues with testing equipment as needed.
Problem Identification and Resolution:
Identify any defects or irregularities during the testing process and determine their cause.
Recommend corrective actions to address identified defects or inconsistencies.
Work closely with engineers, quality control teams, and production staff to resolve issues and improve product quality.
Safety and Environmental Compliance:
Follow all safety protocols and guidelines while performing tests, particularly when working with radiation or other hazardous materials.
Ensure proper disposal of test materials and adherence to environmental regulations.
Training and Support:
Provide training to junior inspectors or other staff on NDT methods and procedures.
Support the development and implementation of NDT procedures and quality control programs within the organization.
Qualifications:

Education: Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field. Certification in NDT methods (e.g., ASNT, NAS 410, PCN) is required.
Experience: Experience in NDT inspection, quality control, or a related field. Specific experience with certain testing methods may be required depending on the job.
Skills:
Proficiency in various NDT methods (UT, RT, MPT, DPT, ECT, etc.).
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Attention to detail and precision in conducting tests and interpreting results.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
Good communication skills for reporting and collaborating with teams.
Familiarity with relevant codes and standards (ASME, ASTM, API, etc.).
Work Environment:

Typically works in industrial settings such as manufacturing plants, construction sites, refineries, or laboratories.
May require working in confined spaces, at heights, or in hazardous environments.
Requires adherence to strict safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
