Overview
The Networking Senior Technician plays a pivotal role in maintaining and enhancing the organization's network infrastructure. This position requires a high level of expertise in network configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance. As technology continues to evolve, the Senior Technician is vital for ensuring network reliability and performance. This role collaborates closely with the IT department to implement solutions that enhance connectivity while ensuring data security and optimal performance. The Senior Technician will oversee junior technicians training and development and participate in strategic planning for network expansion and upgrades. Key Responsibilities
- Design, configure, and maintain network systems including routers and switches.
- Monitor network performance and troubleshoot connectivity issues.
- Implement network security protocols and manage firewall configurations.
- Coordinate with vendors for hardware/software procurement and support.
- Evaluate and recommend network hardware and software upgrades.
- Create and maintain detailed documentation of network configurations and changes.
- Assist in the planning and execution of network expansions and upgrades.
- Provide technical support to internal users and troubleshoot escalated issues.
- Train junior network technicians and provide guidance on best practices.
- Participate in disaster recovery planning and implementation.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends.
- Conduct regular network evaluations to ensure peak performance.
- Facilitate network intrusion prevention and detection measures.
- Manage IP address assignments and ensure effective subnetting.
- Collaborate with other IT departments to integrate systems.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in networking support.
- Proficiency in routing and switching protocols (e.g., BGP, OSPF).
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or equivalent certification.
- Experience with firewall management (e.g., Cisco ASA, Fortinet).
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP, DHCP, and DNS.
- Experience with VoIP and wireless technologies.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with network monitoring tools (e.g., Wireshark, SolarWinds).
- Knowledge of network security practices and protocols.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to stay current with technology changes.
- Experience with cloud networking solutions (e.g., AWS, Azure) is a plus.
