Job OverviewThe Operating Room Head Nurse fulfills both nursing and managerial duties. They are responsible for directing the nursing staff and serve as the primary point of communication between the operating nurses and the doctors, administration and other professionals within PHI Medcare. S/he is also responsible for overseeing the performance and effectiveness of all nursing staff under their management. S/he is responsible for assigning the operating room nurses schedules, maintaining medical records, reviewing and signing appropriate nursing procedures and practices, training and educating nurses and developing effective and cohesive nursing teams.
- Responsibilities & Duties
· Leads by example by following policies and going the extra mile.
· Monitors staff performance and coordinates with management to develop all clinical services.
· Conducts biannual evaluations of operating room nurses and provides performance coaching.
· Derives ad implements performance improvement plans.
· Provides orientation to all new operating room nurses and prepare training program for same as per requirement and implement all changes on systems and evaluate all continuous quality improvement programs and documents for same.
· Maintains and updates all medical records
· Administers routine tests and examinations for patients
· Manages patients in units and recommends the most cost-effective methods to assist the physicians conducting daily rounds
· Oversees the operating room nursing department and supervises all medical and laboratory services as per resident requirements and in accordance with PHI Medcare policies.
· Assists with the recruitment process of operating room nurses.
· Monitors all nursing services provided and ensures compliance with all health guidelines
· Participates in various committees and manages all communication with the staff and associate ancillary departments.
· Prepares schedules for operating room nursing shifts and ensures that shifts are not overlapping. Schedules a replacement for staff who are unable to attend their shift.
· Pre-approves any leave requests for operating room nurses.
· Handles all complaints from nurses appropriately.
· Monitors all patient care activities and ensure adherence to all clinic policies to satisfy all patient requirement and evaluate all assignments for members of shifts and maintain all policies and procedures for nursing unit.
· Handles patient complaints and escalates them to the Medical Director if appropriate.
· Coordinates with management to organize all operating room nursing staff meetings and prepares reports for same and ensures compliance with PHI Medcares objectives.
- Supervisory Responsibilities
The Operating Room Head Nurse has supervisory responsibilities over all of the operating room nurses.
- Competency (knowledge, skills, & abilities)
- Bachelors degree in Nursing
- Masters degree in Nursing is preferred
- Minimum of 10 years of experience Nursing, 3 of which as an Operating Room Head Nurse
- Strong leadership ability
- Creative problem-solving skills
- Excellent communicator
- Strong administrative skills
