Job Title: Plaster Technician
Job Purpose
Providing casting/plastering support for Emergency, Orthopedic and inpatient departments in the application of plastering and assist the physicians and nursing staff with orthopedic procedures and other tasks associated with the patient care. Perform tasks (independently / under general supervision of providers) such as application and removal of casts including complex casting and orthopedic splints and devices as and when required by the departments associated.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Prepare cast treatment rooms, orthopedic clinics for patients and check the hygienic requirements.
- Receive patients and identify them with their names and identification band and also check patient's records, their diagnosis and the X-rays.
- Ensure the shaping of cast is appropriate and it provides patients maximum comfort and minimum pressure.
- Assist Physician in the treatment of injuries to bones and surrounding ligaments and tendons.
- Assist with orthopedic casting procedures to include the application and removal of a variety of casts and splints.
- Assist with routine examination and treatment procedures to include removing casts, cleaning wounds and applying dressings.
- Apply and remove all types of extremity casts and braces using plaster, synthetic materials and thermoplastics.
- General Assessment of the patient and the cast that was previously applied to the broken bone part.
- Communicate effectively with patients/families and the clinic team in a manner that promotes positive working relationships and provide emotional support to patients and relatives.
- Record and maintain patient treatment information in patient charts and related records.
- Apply appropriate cast/splint as per physician order using appropriate casting/splint material with body in appropriate position.
- Adjust hinged orthopedics devices to physician specifications and Assist Orthopedics Surgeon in reduction of fractures.
- Usage of cast removing machines appropriately ensuring patient safety.
- Recognize and respond appropriately to urgent/emergent situations per protocols and Ensure there is enough goods or materials to meet shift demand and check the inventory.
- May attend surgical rounds and attend OT procedure facilitating cast/plaster application and re-checking it.
Qualification Requirements
- Secondary School or its equivalent and Certificate of completion of Plaster technician training course or General Nursing Diploma/Degree/Orthopedic Cast Technician Diploma
- Plaster technician certificate from an accredited institution for one year or above.
- License:DHA Regulator
Experience Requirements
2 years of experience post certification in the related field
