This position can be based in Dudelange, Luxembourg or Bolton, Ontario Canada.
The Process Specialist in the Advanced Solutioning Processing Team will work mainly to develop and design extruder screws and plasticizing units to increase injection unit throughput and melt quality. In addition, the Process Specialist will work to increase Husky's processing knowledge primarily in PET Preform injection molding, and potentially in Multilayer or Medical applications
Key Responsibilities / Area of Accountability:
- Identify and quantify relationships between screw designs, process parameters and part quality attributes, through designed experiments on pilot and production scale equipment.
- Innovate and develop through testing new extruder screw designs and processing strategies that improve throughput and maximize melt quality.
- Translate findings into application and processing guidelines and Technology Roadmap inputs.
- Conduct molding system and customer production line audits aimed at improving efficiency and/or increasing Husky knowledge.
- Work with Product Development teams during FMEA to identify processing risks associated with new developments.
- Process development and optimization for new applications and technologies across markets
- Review feasibility of special or exceptional applications and inquiries
- Participate in Product Launch Teams when required.
- Lead other process engineering and sustainability related projects as an individual and/or as a team which cover a wide range of topics from:
- Design for circularity
- Recycling processes.
Qualifications:
- Mechanical or Chemical Engineering Degree preferably at Master's or PhD level
- Three to five years relevant industrial experience
- An in-depth knowledge of extruder screw design and detailed understanding of the injection molding process.
- Experience with PET processing and preform molding equipment an asset.
- Ability to travel internationally (up to 15 20%)
- Flexibility to support high level processing-related customer issues at times with short notice travel.
- Fluency in data analysis is required to make connections between injection molding or part design variables and the measured effect on performance.
Skills and Abilities:
- Communication, project management and organization skills
- Able to present and communicate high-level concepts to diverse audiences such as customers, executive, and management teams as well as fellow engineers.
- Strong technical and problem-solving skills, synthesizing information to solve problems.
- Good IT skills (MS Office, MiniTAB statistical software)
- Ability to connect field observations and theoretical model predictions building knowledge of the influence of hardware features on system behavior.
- Fluent in English; other languages are considered an asset.
