We are looking for a dedicated Production Engineer to join our team and contribute to optimizing our production processes and elevating our operations.
Job Summary:
The Production Engineer will focus on optimising the socks knitting department, ensuring smooth operations, enhancing machine efficiency, and training staff to achieve top-tier performance. This is a hands-on role requiring presence on the production floor, problem-solving, and proactive process management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process Optimization: Analyse current operations within the socks knitting department and implement process improvements to boost efficiency, reduce machine downtime, and maintain product quality.
- Technical Expertise: Quickly learn and master the mechanics, software, and programming of automatic socks knitting machines. Handle machine maintenance, troubleshoot technical issues, and support new machinery integration.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the design and sample teams to ensure that new designs meet manufacturing standards. Collaborate with the quality control team to maintain high-quality output, taking the lead in quality improvements.
- Monitoring and Reporting: Track key performance metrics, including output rate, defect rate, and machine downtime. Provide detailed daily reports to the Production Manager and Managing Director.
- Training and Development: Develop and implement a comprehensive training curriculum for machine operators, tailored for both newcomers and experienced staff. Conduct hands-on workshops and create detailed training manuals.
- Problem-Solving: Proactively identify potential production issues and implement solutions to prevent disruptions. Apply Lean Management and Six Sigma methodologies where possible.
- Technology and Innovation: Research and suggest new technologies or production practices to improve efficiency. Pilot and evaluate new machinery and software, including participating in the integration of ERP systems.
- Safety and Compliance: Ensure that all process improvements comply with safety protocols and regulatory standards. Be proactive in proposing enhancements to current safety measures.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Mechatronics Engineering.
- Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in a production engineering role, preferably in textiles or general manufacturing.
- Technical Skills: Strong understanding of production machinery, quick learning ability for specific knitting machinery, ERP knowledge, and experience in data analysis tools.
- Certifications: Lean Management and Six Sigma certifications are a plus.
- Soft Skills: Excellent problem-solving skills, leadership, effective communication, and the ability to motivate and train team members.
- Hands-On Approach: Must be willing to work on the production floor regularly and assist with machine setup and calibration.
Work Environment and Schedule:
- Hours: Saturday to Thursday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, with flexibility for urgent situations or different shifts.
- Role Type: This role requires a significant amount of time on the production floor; candidates who prefer office-based work may not be the right fit.
Immediate Focus:
The initial priority for the Production Engineer will be to learn everything about the automatic socks knitting machines, including their mechanics, software, and programming. This knowledge is essential for taking ownership of the role and contributing to immediate improvements.
