The Psychiatry - Specialist works in a team setting and is accountable to the Consultant Psychiatry, Section Head and/or Department Chair. He acts under the guidance of the Psychiatrist Consultant in the provision of clinical service and supports the Consultant Psychiatry in their duties.
The Psychiatry - Specialist participates in the management of patients to the extent of his/her delineation of privileges. Research is a key and integral component to the Naufar's Strategic aim to become an Academic Health System. The post holder must be able to contribute and support on delivering an integrated strategic vision and planning for Clinical, Research, Education and training which improves the quality of patient care The post holder will lead in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of persons with substance use disorders or co-occurring substance use and psychiatric disorders.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Clinical Duties:
- The Psychiatry Specialist is responsible for organizing, monitoring, and maintaining the clinical services provided within the department in order to achieve the highest possible level of patient care with optimum utilization of the available resources.
- Provides Psychiatry care services to patients in the Psychiatric clinics as assigned by the consultant psychiatry, and presents new cases, when required, to the consultant.
- Confers and discusses patient progress reports and any concerns related to management of patient with the consultant attending the patient.
- Makes daily rounds for inpatients in the department and evaluates patient care-related activities as assigned by the consultant and/or chairperson of the department.
- Writes, completes and approves medical records and reports for patients, including but not limited to history and physical, progress notes, operative report, consultation note, transfer summary, discharge summary, etc.
- Carries out practical training, academic responsibilities and scientific research as directed by the department head/chairperson.
- Assumes supervisory responsibility for the performance of his/her subordinates in the assigned department or service.
- Performs other duties as assigned/directed by the Consultant/Section Head/Department Chair and approved by the Medical Director/CMO.
- Ensure patients are aware of their rights and responsibilities.
- Performs all relevant patient-care clinical interventions related to his/her field of specialization.
- Conducts rounds and undertakes treatment/management of the inpatients as well as screening and examination of the outpatients.
- Provides on-call services, including attending first-call and post-call duties
- Assess patient needs, strengths, weaknesses, and behaviors through interviews, direct observation, diagnostic testing and pertinent collateral information to initiate a comprehensive management plan that best meets patients needs.
- Provide MDT leadership and psychiatric services in accordance with Naufar clinical needs when it required as assigned by consultant.
- Work closely with Naufar multidisciplinary teams to provide a high standard of care, which encompasses clinical assessment, treatment and management of patients across a wide range of clinical areas including mental health conditions while complying with internationally recognized standards.
- Prescribe medications for treatment of mental, emotional or behavioral disorders and substance use disorders in alignment with local and recognized international prescribing guidelines.
- Provide supervision to other staff and provide specialist interventions for new or emerging drugs of misuse to better deal with these difficult cases.
Research, Education, Policies, Systems, Processes and Procedures:
- Participates in health education programs through orientation and scientific presentations.
- Adheres to policies, guidelines, plans and programs of Naufar Center.
- Ensure self and member of the Investigation Team are properly trained. Compile with the policies systems and processes in place that governs research.
- Fulfil continuing professional development requirements and participate in relevant learning opportunities like conferences or seminars to enhance personal expertise and apply that expertise to providing continuous quality improvement of patient care at Naufar.
- Assist in conducting clinical research, adding to the evidence base of practice in addictions and related areas.
- Assist in the teaching of other multidisciplinary team members, clinical and non-clinical staff, and others to promote knowledge about the assessment and care of patients with substance use or co-occurring substance use and psychiatric disorders.

- UK - GMC/CCST Specialist Register
- Germany - Fachartz Specialist Certificate
- Sweden - Swedish Board
- Australia and New Zealand Fellowship from the Royal Australia and New Zealand Colleges
Certifications/Licensure:
- Valid Primary license from the country of origin.
- Must satisfy revalidation criteria.
- Eligible for Psychiatry license from the Licensing authority in the State of Qatar to practice Healthcare Profession.
- Up-to date CPD in relevant areas.
Experience:
- Specialists with List A Education at least 1-year of experience in psychiatry and /or substances abuse post specialty certification.
- Specialists with List B Education, at least 3-years Specialist experience post certification is required. Specialists experience from other countries will be considered after an equivalence review.
OR
- A satisfactory number of years of Psychiatry experience post certification as required by licensing authority of Qatar/DHP in order to be eligible to obtain Psychiatry License
