Svitzer is seeking an experienced Regional Marine Manager for its operations in AMEA. As Regional Marine Manager you will act as centre of excellence for all nautical matters, projects and optimisation initiatives for Svitzer AMEA region. Reporting to the Regional COO, you will take full ownership of fleet compliance, optimisation, new business implementation and vessel training, ensuring safety and compliance with all regulations, continuously driving operational excellence and customer focused solutions.

What will you do

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Act as Centre of Excellence for all nautical matters, projects and optimisation initiatives.
  • Participate in business development initiatives by providing expert nautical advice for tenders and contributing to the development of marine and nautical solutions for customers.
  • Ensure vessel and crew compliance with all relevant regulations and Svitzer standards in relation to workplace health and safety, environmental, Flag and Class issues, in all areas of control. Act as lead focal point with Government and Class agencies for ship operations.
  • Ensure all fleet are fit for purpose by managing fleet renewal, vessel relocations, purchases and sales, in close coordination with global head office.
  • Overall responsibility for vetting/auditing of marine/nautical operations.
  • Provide guidance to Masters as needed in daily operation and in incident handling.
  • Provide nautical advice in regard to any marine incident investigation.
  • Develop and implement training standards and training program's for delivery to crew, to ensure operation to Svitzer standard.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective communication between the operations for the purposes of Fleet Management.
  • Optimisation of fleet utilization.
  • Support local operations teams in connection with customer engagements related to training and existing & new operations.
  • Sourcing and deployment of substitute vessels as and when required.
  • Marine Operations within the region in close collaboration with other departments (including but not limited to technical, procurement, crewing, Marine Standards, Commercial and Finance) and customer support.
  • To follow, advise and adopt new technologies in the fields of tugs, towage and marine services working with technical and newbuild departments to drive a competitive advantage for Svitzer.


Fleet Compliance:

  • Ensure that the Region's fleet are compliant with all statutory and class certificate requirements.
  • Ensure the responsible person for vessel certificate compliance in each operation is identified and understands their responsibilities towards maintaining all vessel certificates.
  • Maintain an overview of vessel certificate validity and expiry dates.
  • Perform site visits and take part in audits.


Fleet Optimisation:

  • Evaluate the performance, utilisation and suitability of assets in each operation and provide guidance on how vessels can best be used per operation.
  • Provide the COO with guidance on best utilisation of vessel assets across the region.
  • Determine best asset allocation for new or expanding existing operation.


Fleet Coverage:

  • Develop and maintain a network of Ship and Chartering Brokers so as to enable sourcing of replacement vessels as and when required for the fleet.
  • Source suitable replacement vessels as required to cover vessels going for dry-dock as and when required and facilitate entering into Charter party Agreements when required.
  • Source suitable substitute vessels to replace existing fleet vessels in the case of breakdown as and when required and facilitate entering into Charter Party Agreements when required.
  • Negotiate preferential charter rates for replacement and substitute vessels when needed.

New Business Implementation:

  • Take charge of documenting and developing a new business implementation framework with supporting procedures and checklists across the various facets involved in new business implementation.
  • Accordingly, liaise and keep current the various checklists and procedures to ensure implementation adheres to the latest statutory requirements and/or site-specific requirements for the project.
  • Assist in the business development phase of projects by developing high-level implementation plans, advising on timelines and impact.
  • Oversee and actively manage various scales of vessel deployments to contract. Driving some as lead, working with the responsible manager on other projects in a supporting capability.
  • Assist with ad hoc projects and assignments as required.
  • Present new project ideas, innovative and strategic initiatives to customers.
  • Write up operational and training elements of tender bids.
  • Site visits for potential new projects.
  • Vessel inspections for new vessel acquisition.

Training:

  • Keep up to date and relevant the OVMSA training.
  • Ensure all vessels crew are appropriately trained for the relevant operation.
  • The planning, delivery and monitoring of Master's training in specific locations, ensuring that all training plans are implemented as cost effectively as possible in coordination with Port teams.
  • Taking the lead in tug simulator contingency and port training requirements.
  • Provide advice to operations in the selection and performance management of marine and nautical staff, including Masters, in relation to their skills and performance.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Demonstrated experience within the maritime industry, with strong knowledge of marine operations.
  • Proven / evidenced tug master training and sign off competencies.
  • Tug Master with at least 10 years understanding in tug handling and port interactions (harbour and terminal).
  • Previous Port Manager experience.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in vessel registration and flagging.
  • Strong knowledge of Vessel Management.
  • Proficient user of MS Office (Project, Word, Excel, Powerpoint).
  • An ability to influence, drive and manage various stakeholders especially the ability to manage upwards and across a matrix structure.
  • PMP qualification or very least formal training in MS Project.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-starter with a strong personal drive to meet deadlines.
  • High tenacity and persistence to follow through on issues.
  • Excellent communication skills across multiple levels in the organisation and with external and internal stakeholders.
  • High level of professionalism, honesty and integrity.
  • Strong understanding of change management

Required Education:

  • University Degree in Ship Management.
  • Master Certification.
  • ISM Auditor (LRQA or equivalent).
  • Marine or Project Management qualifications.
