Job Purpose
The role of the
Safety Specialist - Engineering is to investigate and conduct incident, accident, safety hazards and event investigations involving the Engineering and other operations (Flight and Cabin), in accordance with the relevant internal and external standards and practices. This role will provide specialist support to the Manager Engineering & Ground Ops (MEGOS) on specific aviation safety matters.
In This Role, You Will
- Liaise with the operational departments to ensure their timely response to the collection of the documentation and information related to an investigation of a safety event. Collect, share and review with MEGOS the responses received from the operations/ line departments related to the investigation of the safety hazard or event and the recommended corrective and preventive actions.
- Propose achievable recommendations based on industry best practices to the operational departments following an investigation and discuss their effectiveness with MEGOS, and other management as required. Communicate to the line/ operational departments the recommended actions proposed following a safety investigation and monitor the implementation progress.
- Provide expert advice (including best practices) to the Safety Promotions team to develop safety awareness training. Participate in safety campaigns with the Safety Promotions team to increase safety awareness. Provide feedback on the implementation efficiency of the SMS (Safety Management System) within the operational departments, including the monitor of the reporting processes among the operations departments and third party/ contracted companies.
- Lead in-depth analysis of safety data and present statistical summaries to MEGOS highlighting significant trends and occurrences. Act as a delegate for the Engineering Safety Manager in Management and Safety meetings as and when needed.
- Provide assistance and guidance to the operational departments to identify and assess the hazards present. Develop hazard prevention strategies to assist in the achievement of safety targets.
- Maintain up to date knowledge on safety critical procedures and undergo specialised training as needed to ensure effective support and recommendations are provided to management.
- Lead investigations of safety events involving Emirates Group staff, aircraft, equipment and associated facilities under the guidance of MEGOS to identify the causal factors and propose recommendations to avoid re-occurrence and improve the overall level of safety.
- Support the Safety Manager in collecting factual information from the involved operational departments for a safety incident that is under formal Group Safety investigation. Provide short notice support as required.
- Apply proactive and predictive safety management methods to identify hazards and manage risk to ensure continuous improvement in safety.
Qualifications & Experience
To be considered for this role, you must meet the below requirements:
- A completed Degree or Honours (12+3 or equivalent) in Engineering related field.
- 5+ years of work experience in Aviation Maintenance or Engineering Safety.
- Excellent English skills in communicating with a diverse range of stakeholders, presenting, facilitating, quality assurance, and professional report writing (Safety Investigations).
- Capable using IT applications and online systems.
- Certification in Safety or Compliance would be beneficial.
- A basic AEML (Engineers licence) is highly advantageous.
