About the Role
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Senior Design Engineer Solar PV & Hybrid to join our dynamic team in Saudi Arabia! This is a fantastic opportunity to work with cutting-edge solar PV technologies and make a significant impact on the renewable energy landscape.
As a Senior Design Engineer at YDE, your primary responsibility is to design and develop detailed site plans for solar PV system installations. This involves integrating contract specifications, client requirements, and government regulations while ensuring the designs are practical for construction. The Senior Design Engineer transforms initial system concept ideas into comprehensive, construction-ready designs. By collaborating with various team members and customers, you will ensure that customer-specific solutions are efficiently balanced with standard practices.
Key Responsibilities
1. Understanding of Local Electrical Regulations:
- Master the Electrical Networks, Grid Code, Technology, Earthing Systems, and integration of PV systems with the local grid.
- Manage grid connection applications and agreements.
- Design and size PV systems for various applications (Net-Metering, Self-consumption, Captive systems, PV Diesel, BESS, Hybrid systems) ensuring compliance with local and international standards (IEC, BS, IEEE, SEC, Saudi Standards).
2. Proposal Stage Documentation and Drawings:
- Conduct site visits, perform desktop analysis, and prepare customer load profiles for accurate system sizing.
- Create preliminary site layouts and performance estimates for remote sites.
- Analyze technical information from RFPs and tenders to generate required documents and offer cost-effective, time-efficient solutions.
- Produce PV layouts and SLDs using AutoCAD or similar software, adhering to YDE and international standards.
- Prepare bills of materials/quantities for PV/Hybrid system designs.
- Perform Energy Yield Assessments for complex terrains and rooftops using simulation software like PVSyst.
- Integrate solar PV systems with existing diesel/gas generators to optimize fuel savings and system efficiency.
3. Prepare Detailed Drawings at Project Stage:
- Collaborate with the central engineering team to produce detailed engineering drawings, technical descriptions, and technical calculations for engineering signoffs, construction drawings, project licensing, EPC, and execution.
- Analyze information from the Grid operator regarding Grid Code requirements and design PV Plants in compliance with grid operator requirements.
- Complete interconnection drawings, single/multi line diagrams, bid sets, construction sets, and as-built drawings, coordinating overflow of engineering works with engineering vendors for all solar and battery energy storage projects.
- Define and design monitoring and SCADA systems for PV-Hybrid systems to integrate with YDE Asset Management Platform.
4. Perform Compliance and Quality Control:
- Negotiate contracts with EPCs regarding engineering, equipment specifications, and performance/testing schedules.
- Review and validate technical specifications for PV plant equipment, including modules, inverters, LV/MV/HV equipment, tracking systems, power plant controllers, data loggers, and monitoring systems.
- Maintain contact with the procurement team and suppliers for technical discussions and project solutions to optimize electrical infrastructure and costs.
- Review contractor/subcontractor designs for compliance with YDE regulations, local grid requirements, international standards, and engineering best practices.
- Analyze PV system performance and conduct detailed operational assessments, with knowledge of P90 processes and uncertainties calculation.
Requirements
Essential:
- University degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 6+ years of demonstrated experience working as a Design Engineer in the solar industry.
- Previous experience in PV power plant projects execution and knowledge of hybrid systems, with experience in large-scale Solar PV projects.
- Awareness of cultural differences and varying legal/regulatory environments.
- Proficient in PVsyst and related solar performance modeling software.
- Hands-on experience with MS Office, AutoCAD, PVsyst, and SketchUp.
Preferred:
- Multi-project execution experience.
- Previous experience with QHSSE Regulations.
- Experience in a range of renewable energy and hybrid technologies.
- Experience working in a multinational, multi-segment environment with matrix reporting.
- Qualified for the local Grid Operator/Distribution Company contracting license.
- Driving license in KSA.
- Arabic Speaker.
