Finance Manager - Dry Bulk Shipping, Dubai, UAE.
Role Overview:
We are currently working with an established global trading/shipping company, who are seeking an experienced Finance Manager with a proven background in the shipping industry to lead and manage their finance and accounting operations.
The role involves partnering with shareholders and top management to provide financial insights and strategic advice, ensuring efficient financial planning, risk management, and compliance. You will play a pivotal role in decision-making processes, particularly in vessel acquisitions and structured financing.
The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in shipping finance, including a strong track record in project financing and navigating discussions with banks and financial institutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership
- Define the vision, scope, objectives, and KPIs for finance and accounting functions, ensuring effective implementation.
- Contribute to strategic planning and business growth initiatives, providing financial due diligence for investments and acquisitions.
- Financial Planning and Risk Management
- Lead the budgeting process, monitor performance, and deliver actionable insights to achieve financial objectives.
- Develop financial models for forecasting, scenario planning, cash flow management, and risk mitigation.
- Design funding strategies and explore alternative financing options to optimize the capital structure.
- Compliance and Reporting
- Oversee the preparation of financial statements, ensuring alignment with IFRS and regulatory requirements.
- Build robust internal controls, policies, and governance frameworks.
- Facilitate internal and external audits and ensure timely implementation of recommendations.
- Operational Excellence
- Ensure timely invoicing, collection, and payment processes to minimize bad debts and optimize cash flow.
- Generate profitability reports for each vessel and voyage, comparing performance against budgets.
- Maintain strong relationships with stakeholders by ensuring transparency and accountability in reporting.
- Team Leadership
- Recruit, mentor, and motivate finance team members to achieve departmental and organizational goals.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Education: Professional qualification such as Chartered Accountancy, MBA, ACCA, CPA or equivalent.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in the shipping industry, with at least 5 years in a managerial role.
- Expertise in structured finance, project financing, and negotiations with financial institutions for vessel acquisitions.
Skills and Competencies:
- In-depth knowledge of financial modeling, budgeting, forecasting, and scenario planning.
- Expertise in International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking abilities.
- Excellent command of English (spoken and written); proficiency in Arabic is advantageous.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ERP systems.
