Senior Geotechnical Engineer - Abu Dhabi, UAE
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Geotechnical Engineer to join our regional headquarters in Abu Dhabi to strengthen our geotechnical services offering across the region.
The successful candidate's duties and responsibilities will include:
- Completing and managing geotechnical projects through desk studies and ground investigation phases, through to the production of factual and interpretive reports for projects in Middle East
- Design, supervision and management of ground investigations
- Working knowledge of Eurocode 7 and/or similar national and international design codes, ground investigation and construction contracts and specifications
- Effectively communicating with clients (both external and within the wider RSK group) and colleagues to build strong working relationships with the aim of meeting and exceeding client expectations, and contributing to a strong team ethic
- Managing projects to meet both commercial and technical requirements and working with technical and projects leads to deliver appropriate solution
- Managing, motivating, mentoring and developing junior professional staff
- Preliminary review of draft technical work by more junior members of staff, such as logs, schedules, factual and interpretative report and drawings
- Supporting business development, developing new leads and preparation of tenders
- Stewardship of health and safety in accordance with company standards
What we're looking for:- Demonstrable experience in the following:
- Preparation of geotechnical desk studies/geohazard assessments
- Designing, scoping, specifying, supervising and managing ground investigations
- Preparing laboratory testing schedules, analysing and interpretation test data
- Developing ground models and deriving geotechnical parameters
- Production of high quality factual reports, interpretative reports, design reports and specifications
- Geotechnical analysis of piling and other foundations, slopes earth works and retaining structures
- Experience of conducting desk studies and geohazard assessments in the Middle East and/or internationally would be desirable
- Willingness to work away from home office in the UAE for short to medium periods preferred, including Iraq and Saudi Arabia
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including report writing
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Computer literate and skilled with Microsoft Office applications, in particular Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook.
- Use of digital technologies such as the use of GIS, Leapfrog or other 3D ground modelling software, programming, data processing competency desirable
- Knowledge of geotechnical software packages including Oasys, GINT, Geotechnical Pro Suite, Wallap, PLAXIS etc desirable
- UAE/International driving licence.
Qualifications & Certification:
- BEng/Meng/BSc or equivalent in Engineering Geology, Civil Engineering or Geology or related subject essential
- MSc in geotechnics/engineering geology or similar desirable but not essential
- Working towards chartership with either the Geological Society or ICE or another relevant professional body
The role will require significant travel across the GCC Region, including Iraq and Saudi Arabia. Up to 50% of the successful candidate's time will be spent on RSK and client sites across the GCC Region.
