Senior Middle Office/Risk Manager & Commercial Control, Market Risk, Compliance, Commodities, Oil & Gas Trading, Energy, Location: Dubai, UAE.
We are currently working with an up-and-coming energy commodities trading company, based in Dubai, who are seeking an experienced Senior Middle Office & Commercial Control. This position is critical in managing the operational activities within the commodity trading business. The person will ensure efficient and effective trade execution, risk management, and trade support functions.
Responsibilities
- Build and manage the trade execution process, ensuring timely and accurate execution of commodity trades, including trade capture, confirmation and settlement processes. Coordinate with traders, brokers, and relevant stakeholders to ensure smooth trade flow.
- Develop and implement robust risk management strategies and frameworks to identify, measure, and mitigate risks associated with commodity trading activities. Monitor market trends, assess risk exposures, and provide recommendations to senior management.
- Implement and maintain efficient operational processes, systems, and controls within the middle office. Continuously evaluate and improve processes to streamline operations, increase efficiency, and reduce operational risks, including automation and digitalization.
- Update management and processes with relevant regulations and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
- Ensure all company and regulatory requirements and objectives are fulfilled during pre-transaction validation and post-transaction monitoring, including the transaction execution; ensuring long-term planning for product sales and shipment management, forecasting oil ensuring consistency and accuracy across all reports for portfolios such as Gasoil, Fuel oil, Naphtha etc.
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting of position to traders and management, PnL, MtM and pricing and other risks (both assuming paper and physical views); both by core desks, inter-desk and aggregate views.
- Manage the trading business's risk profile in accordance with the agreed-upon appetite for risk and risk limits.
- Ensure all transactions are correctly processed and reported; ensure data quality via reconciliations.
- Work closely with market risk analysts fostering a collaborative work environment.
- Conduct comprehensive research and analysis of market trends, competitor activities, and economic factors impacting the commodity industry.
- Develop and implement data-driven strategies to identify emerging markets and potential growth opportunities.
- Monitor and evaluate market dynamics, supply and demand factors, pricing trends, and regulatory changes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide insights and recommendations on pricing strategies, risk management, and supply chain optimization.
- Design and implement forecasting models to anticipate market fluctuations and guide strategic planning.
- Stay updated on industry developments, technological advancements, and emerging market trends to ensure a competitive advantage.
- Prepare and present reports, dashboards, and presentations to senior management and key stakeholders
- Foster strong relationships with industry experts, research institutions, and external partners to enhance market intelligence capabilities.
- Relevant and successful candidates will have an entrepreneurial flair, be hands on and have worked extensively in a trading environment focused on oil/ energy commodities.
Skill & Requirements
Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, or a related field. Master's degree or MBA is preferred.
- 8-12+ years of experience in middle office operations in the commodity industry, with a strong understanding of middle office functions and processes and five years of experience equivalent to the role.
Technical:
- Proficient in using relevant technology platforms and building trading systems implementations such as ION Aspect CTRM. (working with developers)
- Coding / IT Skills (via Bloomberg, excel VBA, R mark down, and Python) and implementation of various suitable risk control tools (via POWER BI, Excel VBA and Python).
- Strong understanding of trade support processes, risk management frameworks, and operational controls.
- In-depth knowledge of commodity markets, trading instruments, and associated regulatory requirements.
- Develop strategy, goals and objectives, business plans, specialization, and organizational structure of the company.
- Knowledgeable in any relevant regulatory legislation.
