Senior Producer, News Desk

JOB SUMMARY:

As Senior Producer, News Desk, you will play a pivotal leadership role in our digital newsroom. The ideal candidate will have a track record of producing high-calibre, digital content and managing successful teams in a fast-moving environment. Your expertise in the business and financial sector will be instrumental in guiding our breaking news coverage, across written and visual media. You will oversee a team tasked with generating unplanned news content, as well as a team of Copyeditors that serves the broader newsroom. You will coordinate with other department leads

to ensure comprehensive, authoritative and engaging content on the topics of tech, finance, business and markets that explains, informs, guides and inspires a young, aspirational audience, across our digital platforms.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lead a small news team, vetting breaking events and selecting coverage that aligns with our organisation's strategic goals: helping young investors and professionals in emerging markets take control of their lives by building their personal wealth.

Monitor business news developments across Businext's target markets in Southeast Asia, India and the Middle East, with an eye toward their relevance to young investors, entrepreneurs and executives in those geographies. Watch financial markets, company news, and economic indicators to identify potential stories.

Assign, edit or personally handle briefs (250-word articles or 1- to 2-minute video scripts) in a manner that prioritises accuracy, speed, brevity and piquing audience interest.

Coordinate real-time coverage and content distribution with section heads and social media desk. Ensure a mix of content that appeals to an aspirational, money-focused audience on topics that may include but are not limited to markets, tech, AI, cryptocurrencies, private equity, AI and various forms of decentralised finance.

Update Businext website to ensure that homepage remains fresh, interesting and lively. Use real-time analytics tools to gauge audience interest in posted content, modifying site as appropriate to sharpen engagement.

Act as manager for a small team of Copyeditors that line-edits selected content from across the wider newsroom for factual accuracy, reasoning, style, grammar and punctuation.

Provide leadership in a fast-paced, digitally focused newsroom.

Protect the company brand by ensuring brand consistency and editorial quality and shielding the organisation from reputational or legal harm.

Collaborate with other members of editorial leadership and the executive team as necessary to confer on difficult decisions that could impact the organisation's reputation, editorial integrity, legal risk, personnel risk or business risk.

Assess, recruit, vet and manage freelance writers, videographers and multimedia journalists. Curate a network of industry experts, analysts and insiders to contribute to our content and provide exclusive insights.

Foster relationships with financial analysts, economists, industry experts, and business leaders to enhance story quality and viewer understanding.

Ensure that reporting complies with legal and journalistic standards, including fact-checking and source verification.

Mentor and manage a team of Producers and Copyeditors, fostering their professional growth and ensuring top-quality news production.

Work closely with the digital strategy team to maximise the reach and impact of content across various platforms, including social media, mobile apps, and the web.

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience as a producer or editor with a significant portfolio in business and financial news content.

Proven ability to operate in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, preferably with a digital news operation. Wire service experience may also be applicable.

Demonstrable leadership experience in mentoring staff and managing teams, including inspiring colleagues, and handling conflict resolution.

Previously exhibited editorial judgement and in-depth knowledge of the business and financial sectors.

Proven ability to create compelling, engaging, and informative content for digital media.

Bachelor's degree in journalism, economics, finance or a related field. A master's degree or an MBA is a plus.

SKILLS:

Ability to work across multiple media, including but not limited to video and written formats.

Excellent organisational skills with the capacity to oversee multiple project and deadlines concurrently.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, with skill in other languagesespecially within key geographies of the Middle East, India and Southeast Asiaa strong plus.
