Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Roads Design Engineer to lead the design and development of complex road infrastructure for our projects. In this senior-level role, you will be responsible for overseeing the planning, design, and integration of roadways, drainage systems, and water/wastewater utilities to ensure safe, efficient, and sustainable transportation and infrastructure solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a team of design engineers to develop detailed design plans, specifications, and construction documents for roads, highways, and wet utilities projects
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to the design team, sharing your expertise and best practices
- Collaborate closely with project managers, clients, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders to understand project requirements and constraints, and to ensure successful project delivery
- Conduct thorough site assessments, surveys, and geotechnical investigations to inform the design process
- Perform advanced engineering analyses, including hydrologic and hydraulic calculations, pavement design, and utility network modeling
- Utilize state-of-the-art CAD software, GIS, and other design tools to create high-quality engineering drawings, 3D models, and visualizations
- Review and approve design work produced by the team to ensure compliance with project specifications, local/state/federal regulations, and industry standards
- Identify and resolve complex design-related issues, coordinate with other disciplines, and provide technical guidance to the team
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, technologies, and regulations related to transportation infrastructure and wet utilities
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
- Minimum 6 years of experience in roads design, with a strong background in transportation infrastructure
- Proficient in using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and other advanced design software
- Excellent understanding of road design, drainage systems, water/wastewater utilities, and construction methods
- Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills
- Effective communication and collaboration abilities, with experience in stakeholder management
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in leading large-scale, multi-disciplinary transportation and infrastructure projects
- Familiarity with sustainable design principles, green infrastructure, and LEED certification
- Proficiency in 3D modeling, GIS, and hydraulic/hydrologic modeling software, such as HEC-RAS, SWMM, or EPANET
- Knowledge of project management methodologies and tools, such as Agile, Lean, or Waterfall
- Experience in designing and integrating intelligent transportation systems (ITS), such as traffic signals, variable message signs, and connected vehicle technologies
- Extensive understanding of utility coordination, conflict resolution, and relocation planning
Knowledge of permitting processes and regulatory requirements for roads and utilities projects
