Steel Structural Designer

Job Title: Steel Fabrication Designer

• Key Responsibilities:

Design and Drafting:

• Create detailed 2D and 3D drawings and models of steel structures, components, and assemblies using CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Tekla, etc.).

Develop fabrication and assembly drawings with precise specifications for steel components.

• Ensure designs comply with relevant codes, standards, and project specifications.

Engineering Analysis:

• Perform stress analysis, load calculations, and other mechanical engineering assessments to ensure the structural integrity and performance of steel designs.

Collaborate with structural engineers to optimize designs for strength, weight, and manufacturability.

Project Management: Coordinate with project managers, architects, and other stakeholders to ensure design objectives are met within budget and on time.

• Assist in preparing project documentation, including material specifications, BOMs (Bill of Materials), and project timelines.

Quality Assurance:

• Review and revise designs based on feedback from manufacturing teams, ensuring that the designs are practical and cost-effective for fabrication.

Conduct inspections of fabricated components to ensure they meet design specifications and quality standards.

• Collaboration and Communication:

Work closely with other engineers, designers, and fabricators to solve complex design and engineering challenges.

• Communicate effectively with clients and suppliers to ensure that all project requirements are understood and met.

• Qualifications:

Education: Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

Experience: 3+ years of experience in steel fabrication design or a related field.

• Proven experience with CAD software, specifically in designing steel structures.

Skills:

• Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles and structural analysis.

Proficient in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Tekla).

• Knowledge of relevant industry standards and codes (e.g., AISC, ASME, ISO).

Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

• Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with project management.

• Certification in related design or engineering fields.

Familiarity with welding processes and fabrication techniques.
